If NOT attending orientation, how are you registering?

I can't attend any of the summer orientation sessions, but I need to register for classes and get everything all situated. Is anyone else in the situation or has been in this situation? Are we able to just call up an adviser and figure everything out through them? I do not want to wait until August to do the Fall orientation to register, even though I probably will go just to get the experience and exposure.

I end up not registration for orientation as well. Someone said on another post that all you need to do the go on campus and meet with an adviser, then they will take your hold off. I am going down to Austin to meet with an adviser like mid-end July.

that’s what i figured. i hoped that we could just do it over the phone.

Actually you can not register, even if you go to the campus without going to an orientation. If you cant make any over the summer you will have to attend the fall orientation a few weeks before school starts, however it will be harder to get into the classes you want because youll be the last to sign up. I knew someone who had a similar problem.

Oh, I should have mentioned that I am a transfer student, where orientation is optional. If you are a freshman, you have to attend orientation, they bold it all over their website.

don’t worry. i am a transfer too  that would just really suck if i couldn’t make my schedule until a few days before school starts. not only will selection of classes themselves suck, but so will the times available.

I’m in this situation - the sessions for Communication transfer students were filled up when I went in to register. Guess I’m going to fall orientation. Probably not going to get into all the classes I want though

I just got off the phone with the office of registrar and apparently if you chose the option to not attend their orientation, you can register on August 24th where they let everyone that hasn’t register yet, register. Also, the fall orientation is FOUR DAYS! The summer one was only 2 days. I don’t think I will attend fall orientation because it is on August 21-24, and usually on the last day, the 24th, is when you register for classes, which is the same day for when they let everyone register.

bobbyn hit the nail on the head, whether or not you attend orientation, 24 August registration opens up for everyone.

must suck to not go to orientation

Today i had all my classes planned out

best professors of each class

1pm came by and registration opened

i registered within the first 60 seconds and got into my engr phys and ochem class
and got in

i checked 60 seconds later on the course schedule and they were waitlisted

i almost ended up with crappy professors for engr phys and ochem

I firmly believe your grade really depends on the quality of professor…

I agree, I feel like I am going to get crappy teachers if I even get into any of my classes at all. All this talk about the waitlist on this forum makes me feel like there are no available open classes.

@Locness You were there yesterday too? Same crap happened to me! I had all my unique numbers written down and planned out. I couldn’t get all the best professors because they were already full prior to the orientation, but I had the best professors that were still open. As soon as it was 1pm, I typed down my unique number and it said “class is closed.” I was like . THERE WASN’T EVEN A WAITLIST ANYMORE ON SOME OF THEM. So *ed off.

But if you conitnue to check, some of them open at random times and some waitlist open occasionally. Also one of the students who was helping out said that if you go to the class on the first day, the professor might ask who is on the waitlist in the class and will put you on his roster. Hopefully I can get all the best professors if before the school year starts or by attending their classes on the first day.

i wasnt where everyone was because i was afraid of being on a clogged wifi system lol

i sat at the sac with a few people and i got everything i wanted except for multivariable which…if you read my other thread I made it will explain why i didn’t get it(basically none of them even opened up, so no one was able to register for it)

if you’re using myedu…it doesnt update often enough, you need to use the course schedule

I’m going to get crappy teachers - great. It’s so annoying because I feel like they should have enough spots for everyone during the summer orientations. I hope we talk to an advisor before August 24th because I don’t even really know what classes I should be taking. I might just go to orientation to meet some people. It is four days, but I will probably be in Austin by then anyway.

@notacatalyst

I think you can just go up to Austin and talk to an advisor any time you want. On the UT site, it say that they have walk-ins and scheduled appointments. I am going to be in Austin this Thursday to sign a lease at Dobie, meet my advisor, upgrade my EID, and make my ID.

i have an appointment for this friday to talk to an advisor. she said we could talk about what classes i should take, but, like i said, i have to wait until orientation to register. i’m going to talk to financial aid and make my student id as well. i am also going to find an apartment and sign a lease.
