Some of you might enjoy these subjects even with school, but I find that school in itself makes subjects I would otherwise find enjoyable to be unbearable because of the stress that comes with knowing you have to memorize and retain this stuff to get a good grade. So even the subjects I like are made less enjoyable because of this.

I would like

Math: I find math very challenging and brain stimulating. It's just the daily 2 hours of homework and the fact that math classes are so much more time consuming than any other type of class that drives me away. But being that I have taken Calculus this year I have found it fascinating in itself. Just hard to get past the insane amount of overload and stress the class creates.

History: I love history. History is still fairly enjoyable for me at school, I just don't like the writing aspects of it and the busy work I often get that is a complete waste of type. (Coloring maps, seriously?)

Spanish: I like the idea of learning a new language, but I absolutely can not stand how any Spanish teacher I have ever had has taught the subject. I feel like almost every activity that is done in class is a complete waste of time. (Even compared to other classes) Doing a word search in Spanish and reading a paragraph to a partner that happens to be in Spanish and having no idea what you are reading actually means is a complete waste of time. I also don't care for most of the culture stuff, mainly because Spanish teachers suck the fun out of whatever fun existed in it and usually just make busy work out of culture stuff.

Subjects I probably wouldn't like anyways
English: I have never been an avid reader. In fact I have probably read 4-5 books in my life that I wasn't forced to read. Even the books I'm supposed to read for school I end up Spark Noting which is always enough to score well on a test about the book. I also am not really into creative writing. Persuasive writing can be interesting sometimes, but I prefer to learn by experience as far as that goes.

Science: I'm one of the few people that happen to be really good at math but terrible at science. Also I like some science, but the majority of it I don't find interesting. Biology in particular I find certain things like genetics and evolution to be absolutely fascinating. But on the other hand I find things like cell biology and cell structures to be the most boring thing I have ever had to learn in school. I have never found chemistry that interesting. (Sorry if you like Chemistry) Physics I think I might like, but haven't taken a physics course in high school (yet).

Math for sure–I love math with all my heart. Science, I probably would–if I had a different teacher, since the teacher I have now goes over really, really basic concepts that I learned in eighth grade.

Probably history as well; I actually really love World History, I’m just too lazy to actually read our textbook. But I find it really fascinating.

And English; I love English a lot. English is amazing–I love the way words can be combined and shaped to mold someone’s actions and thoughts.

Honestly, I’d love pretty much every subject. I actually like the stuff I learn in school, but it’s just too annoying to do any work for them xD I probably wouldn’t like Econ senior year and, if I’m ever forced into taking AP Bio, the organismal parts of that; but other than that, I’m one of the strange people who loves school.

Math: I basically can’t get enough of Math. I make up creative problems on my own to solve for fun.

Physics: Same thing as Math, I find it really interesting.

English: I bet I would enjoy English a lot more than I do now were there no stress right now. Sometimes If I don’t get around to reading the book I just read the Sparknotes summary of it, but I bet I would love to dive more deeply into the books I am reading if I had more time to.

I think I should have taken French or Latin instead of Spanish.

I love and would love Math and Science.
I would absolutely abhor History and ESPECIALLY English.
Spanish can just die I hate the class and dislike learning languages. I can barely speak English…

History:History is so fascinating especially when your teacher teaches it in a very engaging and interesting. I took European History, but I also wanted to take World History. Too bad I cant.

Spanish: Im interested in learning a new language. I took spanish for four years and I completely agree with the OP about how spanish is taught in school. I am more worried about doing the assignment and receiving a good grade rather than learning the material and truly knowing it.

All of them. I think I like math in a computational way, not the concepts or theoretical aspects of it, more in a classroom setting because self-teaching it is very difficult for me.

I like all my subjects now, except for AP Chemistry, which is just okay, so I don’t think taking out the work would change it. And without the work I’d never remember anything.

With Spanish, yes, it does have a lot of busywork, but how else would you remember all those new vocab words and grammar rules?

It makes me sad that so many people don’t like English, I used to not like English in middle school but then I started reading a lot more and realized how great it is! Pretty much all the books I’ve had to read for school were pretty great. I think you all should stop seeing English as a class that takes away from your time with your STEM classes, and instead as another opportunity to learn new things!

@dsi411 Nothing they have you do to help you learn vocabulary actually helps me learn vocabulary. If I actually want to learn vocabulary I just have to go through the list 4-5 times and quiz myself until I’m remembering all of the words doing a 3x each doesn’t actually help me retain what they mean its just writing the word and definition down. Drawing pictures of what the words mean don’t help and my pictures look nothing like what they should be anyways. Doing crossword puzzles and word searches won’t help me either. But I have to do it anyways and it wastes time that I could be using to study my own way and actually learn the words.

Haha I’m the same way; math is my best subject yet I suck at science. But idk math is just so boring, sorry :(( I’d probably enjoy history and science and every other class if the AP pressure didn’t ruin it for us.

@dsi411 The way they teach it boring anyways, so I may as well get something out of it. And I don’t find the idea of learning a new language boring, just the way it is taught in school to be completely ineffective.

I would like science and math a lot more. There are times in pre-calculus that I legitimately had fun with tedious trigonometric function questions. They’re like puzzles! And I really love biology.

I love everything I learn! They’re all interwoven somehow :P… However, if I were to stick with two things for the rest of my life, I’d go with math/science. I love the two so much, and it’s ironic how my Catholic parents still don’t support me as if I were “gay for math and science” XD…

I loath school math and school physics, but that doesn’t mean the classes aren’t fun! If I could get rid of the “school” part of things, math/science/history for me. I like everything. Do I have to pick? Then again, if the stresses of school magically poof-ed away, lunch wouldn’t be as fun. It’s a nice break from everything What am I saying… Merry Christmas!

I think the problem for me isn’t really the work. It’s being held back by students who are struggling. I do try to take the AP version of classes if possible, but I get screwed when it comes to normal classes. For example, the semester is almost over and my physics class is maybe a quarter of the way through the class. Almost all of us have taken calc or at least pre-calc but there’s one student who is in algebra 2. We’re constantly sitting on our computers playing games while the teacher tries to explain something elementary, like average acceleration, to her. I can honestly say I haven’t learned one thing so far and there is no AP or advanced physics offered at my school.
