I’m a freshmen that currently attend a rural high school in Indiana. I might be attending a different high school next year. If I do move, will my grades from freshmen year show up on my college transcript? I know this sounds like a stupid question (and the answer is probably yes). I just need to make sure.
Bonus question: Let’s just say that a student gets a C and 3 B’s first semester of freshmen year in high school. After that, this person gets straight A’s the rest of high school career, along with wonderful extracurriculars and SAT/ACT scores. The main reason why this person got such bad grades freshmen year was because he had such a hard time adjusting to high school, but after getting used to the higher rigor, he excelled. Does this person have a chance of getting into a top-10 school? Especially if this person specifies on his college transcript that the main reason why he got such bad grades first semester was because he had a hard time adjusting? This is not me btw, but a (junior) friend of mine is in this situation.
Hi! I transferred high schools sophomore year and yes, I had to submit two transcripts: one from my school at the time, and one from the school I had gone to for freshman year.
If I go attend a new school next year, will my freshmen grades count towards class rank? Will they take account my grades at my previous school when calculating my class rank?
By senior year he won’t have to justify freshman grades. Colleges like to see upward movement. Even if you’re not new to a system, high school can be an adjustment and colleges are used to seeing students take time to adjust. Also, unless someone is taking a half year class, transcripts don’t include the mid year grades-just the final ones-which are usually end of the year averages of 4 quarters or 2 semesters.
To lostaccount: Really? I’ve always thought that college transcripts included both semester grades. Do they really only include final grades (averages of both semesters)? Does this differ by school? I’ve always though they included both semesters per year.
I transferred schools as well and my transcript from my second school (where I’m graduating from) includes my previous schools grades and they factored in my GPA from the old school into my current GPA. And my transcript also includes two semesters on it (fall and spring). I’d assume that @lostaccount school does it different than most schools.
Also on your second question, your freshman grades count but if you have an upward trend, you can still have a chance at top schools. Especially if you ace your SAT/ACT. If your junior friend has done well since then, he’ll be more than fine! Tell him to come on here to ask for college choices for his exact situation!
