It won't necessarily mean that you won't get into med school somewhere else.... if you do well in Plan II and Bio or something, I'm sure you will have a shot at the top med schools. I don't know about the premed program though...

My son is going into Biomedical Engineering / Honors program. Med schools are waiting in line to get their hands on these students as soon as they graduate!

If only it were that easy.

the fact that UT doesn't have a pre-med program doesn't diminish your chances in getting into a medical school. in fact, not being able to major in "premed" has it's advantages....it forces you to choose another subject (of interest to you) to major in and you become more well rounded. there are med school requirements that all applicants must fulfill in order to be considered admissions into a med school. UT students interested in medical school all complete the required courses. going pre-med at UT is almost like double majoring. true, premed is not recognized as a major...but UT students acquire all the info needed for the MCAT's and for med school.

you'll spend 4 intense years in med school and a lifetime acquiring more information related to medicine....if you end up going to UT and do the pre-med track + major in x, y or z....i can guarantee that you will look back fondly at your time at UT and appreciate that you were able to take non-premed classes that piqued your interest....

for premed, isn't it still better to major in bio/chem, though? you'll gain more knowledge for the MCAT if you major in one of the areas covered on the test.

You would think, I guess it's harder to get a higher GPA that way?
