If you were Berkeley, would freshman B+'s concern you?

Freshman year was, well, bad. I got some pretty sub-expectation grades and this continued into the start of my sophomore year (undiagnosed depression, anxiety issues, etc.) but I have pulled it up from there. My overall UW GPA is around a 3.6-3.7 but I know UC’s don’t consider freshman year grades in their GPA recalculations. However, I feel like they would still look at how you did (because that is only logical).

So my question is, would you be concerned with a student with freshman/early sophomore B+'s with a strong upward trend from there, or would you understand (I realize I’m going against people with 4.0’s, but I’m trying to see what I having going for me lol)?

A lot of colleges like you state don’t look at Freshman grades. (Stanford for instance). All colleges like to see an upward trend in GPA as a student gains more experience in how to study and apply themselves. You have that going for you. That being said, I like to say everything is fair in love and war and college admissions. Freshman grades are part of your transcript and 4.0 GPAs do matter.

If I were a UC? Who clearly state they don’t look at freshman grades? :stuck_out_tongue:

Relax.

The 9th grade grades are not included in the GPAs calculated by UC, but will be visible to holistic admissions readers.

@preppedparent @ucbalumnus @bodangles thank you! I was a little anxious/nervous because I didn’t know if my history would come back to bite me in the butt.

I stand corrected. I went back and looked at the FAQ’s. They don’t look at freshman grades. You are fine.
