^You can do it either way, just make sure the total words (for both answers together or apart) is in the word limit.

To PLME Rep, Bruno 14:
do you know if there are any PLME reps/discussants/tours in the February 20, 2012 Brown day for early acceptees?

Mariocruz: I didn’t even know there was such a day - it didn’t exist when I applied and got in ED. I don’t know, but you can contact the PLME office and ask. Alternatively, I’m available (and I’m sure many of my PLME friends would be as well) to talk to you.

Exactly right. If anyone is planning on visiting campus and would like a tour/chat about plme let me know!

I thought that deferred admission to Alpert was only a compromise for 2014/2018 and, starting 2015/2019, you lost your Alpert position completely upon applying out.

pikafoo that is correct. Applicants lose their spot by applying out.

getting into plme would be a dream come true.
I want to major in Spanish

^Are you applying the RD round?

What is different about the PLME Orientation during the beginning of the year and regular Orientation? The schedule says that PLME’s is longer, but what are we going to be doing during that time?

Pierce568: can you refer us to where you got this information. At least for my PLME class, our orientation was not longer than for other students.

I was unaware that we had an extra portion to the orientation…

Hey Guys if you were accepted to the Brown PLME let’s hear it!!!

Hello everybody,

I have been accepted into Brown PLME. I am currently deliberating between this program and the University of Rochester REMS program.

Some concerns I have about PLME that I hope some current students may be able to address:

The number of PLME students is quite large. How much support does each PLME student receive from faculty advisers and such?

How is the medical education at Alpert?

How large is the patient base of the hospitals affiliated with Alpert?

Is Alpert’s medical faculty accessible and supportive of its medical students?

Thank you for any insight anyone may have to offer.

I got accepted RD for Brown. Is there any way for me to get into the PLME program or is just for people applying?

VouloirPouvoir: there’s a lot of faculty support for PLME students. Each student is assigned to a PLME advisor (there are 4, so it’s about 12-14 students per advising group), and you have regular individual meetings with your advisor, as well as larger class meetings when needed.

I’m going to have a harder time talking about Alpert, as I’m not a current med student yet. However, Alpert is a great med school, and is moving up in the rankings (if that’s what you care about). The patient base is basically all of Rhode Island, since Brown’s the only medical school in the state. I don’t know that much about the medical faculty, but I was able to get clinical research this summer with a pediatric ER doctor, and he’s awesome.

Berke122: you need to apply into PLME as a Brown applicant - there’s no way to apply into it later. Sorry.

PLME applicants, please post PLME after your accepted or rejected etc status in the “Official results” thread. That is helpful for future applicants. Thanks.

@VouloirPouvoir

The number of PLME students is quite large. How much support does each PLME student receive from faculty advisers and such?
We receive IMMENSE individual advising, and there’s a lot of advising that’s offered. All the same, you, the student, should be very forthcoming and proactive regarding advising from both PLME deans and the Brown academic deans as well.

How is the medical education at Alpert?
I’ve taken a few electives at the medical school, but have no direct experience with Alpert otherwise. The new school is beautiful, absolutely state-of-the-art, and the professors I’ve met thus far are very engaging and great at what they do. It’s a very collaborative environment, from what I understand. Professors/Researchers are very accommodating of undergrad students with deep interest as well.

How large is the patient base of the hospitals affiliated with Alpert?
Mostly RI residents, as bruno14 stated. The network is very similar to the Harvard/Mass Gen/Children’s hn too.

Is Alpert’s medical faculty accessible and supportive of its medical students?
YES. Again, though, it’s all the student. You can get as involved with the PLME/Med school as you want, and the faculty will always hear you out, and will often help by directing you to the resources you need.
