Iffy about dorm life

So, I was just wondering what people's opinions are on what type of campus housing is the best. I currently live in a normal freshman dorm, and am not a fan of just having one room that I have to share. My school (UNH) has on-campus apartments (with a kitchen, bathroom, living room), suite styles which just have their own bathroom, and your average dorms. I am starting to think ahead for next year (yes I know it's early, but I'd rather have some sort of idea in mind), and am just trying to get some opinions.

go for suite or even better a single.

You kind of have to make a decision: do you want more privacy or more social opportunities? Single rooms can be lonely and sometimes it can be hard to meet people. If you have a roommate, there’s already a possible friend. (Or enemy. It’s definitely a gamble.) I think freshmen should live in dorms, preferably traditional dorms, because you will meet so many people and you won’t even have to try very hard. On the other hand, if you require quiet, can’t handle conflict, or not very social, an apartment or a suite could be better. As to the suite vs. traditional dorm question, I’d find out the reputations of the dorms in question and decide where you might fit in the best.

I just think the dorms offer so many opportunities you won’t find in, say, an apartment. You can always get an apartment after freshman year.

The only thing im curious about is when you can sleep if everyone stays up all night. It seems odd that you pay alot for a small room to sleep in and then cant sleep. I thought it might be fun to live in a dorm, but now i think an apartment would be better, especially since you wouldnt have an RA to tell you what to do and make you clean your room. And you wouldnt get sharpied if you had your own pad. I still think that living in a dorm must be like going to overnight camp. For orientation they play games and the RAs have whistles. It sure looks like camp to me. Plus you can get a bigger refriderator and you can put your bed on the floor. My mom yelled at me when i got rid of my bed frame, but she cant really do anything about it. Its my room.
And another thing you could do is buy a house then when you graduate you will already have a place to live if you dont want to go back and live at home with your parents.

If you make a good friend or two, I’d go for the suite or apartment. But that’s just me, you might be much more inclined to live on your own.

@Kollegekid for me the best thing would be living in an apartment, preferably not a complex full of students (because I can imagine it’d get as rowdy as a dorm hall), with some good friends. Especially if one or all of us were 21 because then we could go to bars or at least get booze.
