IGETC certification by deadline

Is anyone having trouble with having the IGETC certified by the July 15th deadline? I go to El Camino college, and I went to request both my IGETC certification and my transcripts to be sent to UCI and they told me it should be done only by the end of July. This is just absurd! They said that because they need this semester's grades in order to complete the IGETC certification, it will most likely be delayed (my last day of school is June 10th, and they said it can take up to 3 for the professors to turn in final grades).
What a big mess. Are other colleges experiencing this delay as well?

The last day is June 10th, give them a week to deal out grades so now we’re at June 20th about when they can at earliest send out the transcripts…

A whole month though for them to send them out? That’s a little long, my school says that it will take a week to process everything. Have you inquired about bribes? Bureaucrats tend to call this a ‘rush processing fee’ and it’s usually about $10.

It definitely does not take that long to process transcripts. What MAY be happening is that if you send in the request now they have a certain date in which they take all of the requests that are on “hold” for Spring grades and process them at the same time. They probably make this date LATER than when grades actually come out to ensure that all grades are in for every student.

Personally, I have 2 our of my 3 grades back for Spring Semester that ends tomorrow. I am going to wait on all of them to be recorded online on my unofficial transcript THEN order my IGETC certification and transcript so that there is absolutely NO hold on it and it will be processed normally.

Maybe you can try that? If not just call your UC, let them know. If this is common then I’m sure they will understand. Just make sure you speak with your admissions person and not a receptionist!

My finals aren’t over until June 25! I’m really worried De Anza will make a fuss about getting in IGETC and my transcripts by July 15.

Thank you all for your responses. I inquired about the possibility of a rush fee and the guy was actually offended by my question. I said I needed by July 15th, and he he said “well, that is your problem!”.
I am planning on calling and talking to the person that does the certifications as soon as my grades are recorded, I am worried though because the records person said that professor have up to three weeks to turn in the grades! Talk about being slow!!!
That annoys me beyond what I can explain. Anyway, I wonder if I send them just the official transcript, without the IGETC certification by the 15th and then the certification whenever it is ready might be a better option. In the page where they request transcripts to be sent it doesn’t say anything about the certification, so I am assuming it might be ok…
I plan on talking to my counselor once I have a better idea of when grades are actually going to be coming out. It is just Unbelievable that one of the goals of community colleges is to prepare students to transfer and they can’t even respect deadlines!

Are you sure you need the certification by July 15th? For UCLA, my IGETC Cert. is not due till September 1st.

“transcripts of all work completed through spring 2011 must be received by July 15, 2011.”
"If you are transferring from a California community college or a University of California campus and will complete IGETC or UC Reciprocity, respectively, submit your official certification by September 1, 2011. "

^^^ I couldn’t find any specific date for the IGETC certification so I thought it should be included with the transcript. I am transferring to UCI. The only thing that ever mentioned the IGETC was that it would be needed during orientation.

I know it costs money to pay for official transcripts but is it the same for IGETC certification? Also for UCLA, how do we know when they receive the IGETC certification? Will the ‘!’ pending sign turn into a checkmark when they receive BOTH the transcript up to spring-2011 AND the IGETC certification or just the transcript? I’m slightly confused haha

It costs you money to send official transcripts?? My first 2 were free and every one after that was $2… IGETC certification should be free

To find out if they have received the cert. you would have to call the admissions office ([DPR - FAQs](http://my.ucla.edu/dprfaq.htm#10))

You get the check mark after both transcripts are received

I got the same response from someone working at GCC when I ordered my transcripts and iGETC cert today. I still put it through because it’s the best they could do. They also told me it wasn’t their problem.

Wow, some of you guys have crappy school administrations…

Seriously? They said: “That’s your problem?” Wow. Isn’t it THEIR job! I think it’s shocking how you’re being treated when you’re making an effort of transferring successfully which is, after all, one of the purposes of CC.

I honestly hope I won’t get the same thing at De Anza. I still have two weeks before my quarter is even over AND I’m going to be out of the country a couple of days after this… If I do get a response like “that’s your problem,” I’ll make their life hell until they send it. I’m so NOT going to get rescinded due to something like this!

You should try to get in contact with a person of authority, if the people responsible for sending IGETC and transcripts continue to tell you that getting in your official documents is your problem.

^^^ I know. It is just absurd. I actually wrote to my admissions counselor explaining the situation and offering to send them the final transcript WITHOUT the certification by July 15th and then one WITH it whenever it is ready. I also talked to the person who does the certification over the phone and she said to try not to worry, since they are used to dealing with the same deadline year after year. She said “be sure we will try to make it by the deadline”. While that is not 100% recomforting, at least it is better than “that is your problem”. I also called the school of social sciences (they have a mandatory orientation for which I am supposed to bring transcripts and IGETC verification) and they said they will accept the IGETC at a later time.

THanks for clarifying UCLATransfer9791! Yeah my CC has first 2 official transcripts free also but then it bumps up to like 5 for the third or something you’re lucky your CC is 2 bucks! haha
