The earliest date I can meet a transfer counselor for IGETC certification is June 25th. Cal requires IGETC certification postmarked by July 1st. Does anyone know how long the certification process takes? Is the process quick? Or does the it takes days or weeks?

IGETC certification deadline is July 15. I saw it on a UC counselors memo dated a few days ago.

What do you have to do for IGETC certification? I remember asking my counselor before if she needs to sign anything for it and she said no

All IGETC certification requires is that a counselor (or someone from office) look at your transcript and verify that you taken the required classes. The process can normally be done on a few minutes, complications arise when you have taken class for many years ago or at different colleges. In those cases of old IGETC agreements are looked at to see if any classes satisfy new requirements.

Email your admissions officer, and notify her your school runs late. It’s the same for me since I’m on the quarter system. I emailed my admissions officer to tell her, and she said thanks for letting her know, she would make a mark on my record to remember. It shouldn’t be a problem, as long as you get it to them as soon as possible.

What happens, is if they don’t receive it by sometime in July, they put a soft hold on your records, which I don’t know what that means quite, but it’s not the end of the world.

Your school usually has an IGETC certification form that must be filed with admissions and records. Swing by the office, or look online. Usually you would fill it out with a counselor though, just to make sure you did it correctly. They probably have the form in the counseling office as well.

@Dagoberto It relieves me to hear that it doesn’t take weeks, but I’m not confident that the certification will only take a few minutes to complete as my foreign language requirement will require some documentation. @music1990 Good suggestion. I’ll email my admissions officer to let her know that there’s a possibility the certification will arrive late.

@lindyk8 Not quite the information I was looking for, but thanks!

Just curious, why does UCLA state June 1st for transcripts to be sent, while the UC counselors memo states July 1st? All my official transcripts have been sent to UCLA, and they have them but my IGETC cert will be sent out earliest mid-week. I do not want this to be any type of issue.
