ILR RD Notification

Hi, I applied RD to the ILR school and I was wondering how/when decisions were released, since I've been hearing a lot of conflicting information. If they're rolling, what is the order which they're released in based on and when does do they begin being released, and if they're not, what day should I expect to hear back? Thank you in advance! :)

I’m in the same boat. Can’t seem to get a straight answer from anywhere.

I remember hearing that all the ivy’s send out their admittance letters on the same day, possibly march 14th? (pi day)

iKJKim, it’s definitely not March 14. I know Harvard is March 26. Don’t know about others.

I’m sure there is no “order” in which LL’s are given out. The order in which your application is read is most likely totally random. Obv, they can’t accept you until they’ve read your app. Regular decision applications prob weren’t read until starting mid-Jan. (read A is For Admissions to get a real idea of the very real logistical avalanche admissions departments deal with starting on or about Jan. 2)
There is no way they could do a pre- read to sort applicants by likely, not likely, or maybe. And what would be the purpose of that? It would be a very inefficient way to process 35,000 applications. No, I am sure they just read the apps in random order, and that very day your app is read, it goes into the Accept, Reject, or Waitlist pile. If you are the single most qualified applicant to ever apply to Cornell, and your folder doesn’t get read till mid-March, you not going to get that Likely Letter. So…R-e-l-a-x

From what I’ve heard last year it was late March (around the 28th) for when you get the acceptance letter. You should be getting an email that gives you information on an account that will show your decision 2 days before you find out at least that’s what they did for ED.

Yes, but is ILR on rolling admissions? I know for a fact they released well before the other ivies in past years.

If Harvard is Mar 26, then Cornell is Mar 26 also, but it does seem early to me, it is usually end of Mar. Only A&S and Engineering schools are bound by the Ivy agreement.

The man who I had a phone interview with told me he was ninety-nine percent sure it was rolling, and I called up admissions twice and didn’t get a straight answer (I spoke to two different women, one who said no decisions were made around 3 weeks ago, and another last week who seemed confused by my question and said they wouldn’t release them until May, but I know that is incorrect and she probably misunderstood me…). Also, most people say it can be released any time between late Feb and April 1st, so I’m awfully confused.

Does anyone have any more information, or can direct me towards someone who does? I know that when my application gets read is random, however, knowing a range to expect it would be nice. Thanks again! :)

Sorry, I had March 26 in my head somehow, but the actual announcement date is March 29.

Brown is also March 29, but apparently Princeton is the 30th so who knows!

I believe that the ILR School is rolling admissions, along with the other state contract schools at Cornell (Human Ecology and CALS.) The contract colleges notify you in early to mid-March (not sure how you are notified) while the other colleges at Cornell (Arts and Sciences, Engineering, Architecture and Hotel) find out on “Ivy” admissions day. Last year that was on March 30th and you had to log in at 6:00 and receive your fate. Then the next day they sent your admissions acceptance via Fed Ex.

Very few ILR (and a few other schools - I think Hotel) decisions are released early, on a rolling basis. In the past, a few rolling “accepts” were released the first week in march and came in a small regular mail envelope as a decision, not a likely letter. The vast majority of ILR acceptances come on the Cornell release date with the rest of the Cornell decisions. It is not true that the contract college notification date is different - but a few “accepts” are released.

Yes, it is true that not all colleges listed as “rolling” at Cornell will inform you of your decision before “Ivy” day, thus you will find out when everyone else does on “Ivy” day. There are a number of applicants that do, in fact, find out earlier because of the “rolling” process used in colleges such as ILR and Human Ecology (at least last year this was the case). I do think it varies by year and by major within certain schools. Maybe that’s why it is so confusing.

There is always a lot of conflicting information and speculation about how the “rolling” acceptances work. Even if you are accepted, there is still a chance that you won’t get a letter early. However, last year letters for ILR were sent out to some accepted students the first week in March. I received mine the first Saturday in March… It comes in a small envelope.

Don’t freak out!! Even if you don’t hear back.

ILR school is not rolling decision. Just called ILR admissions and they said they are not rolling and the decision will be out on March 29th. Years ago she said they were rolling but not anymore.

“Years ago” wouldn’t seem to include last year.

can someone tell me what’s going on? Someone found out from hotel today.

@GMABCD, they told me the same thing when I called last year, and people still got decisions early. It isn’t necessarily rolling because the decision could be made and not everybody could find out that they got in prior to the March 29th release date.

@ jadorekouture, don’t freak out! It could be the case that this person applied early decision and was deferred (that happened last year, deferees got acceptance letters early). I see these letters more of as a likely letter because it isn’t released on the portal that you were accepted, but Cornell has notified you… I don’t know the reason as to why Cornell still releases decisions like these early, but the decisions aren’t rolling because after a small portion of applicants receive “acceptance” letters the rest of the acceptances aren’t released until the 29th. Hang in there!

I applied ILR. Is it going to make a difference? Did they start rolling? And yes I applied ED and got deferred too. Also, I tried to check my portal but it is not longer valid? So did something change there? And thanks, that helps alot.
