last year i thought i wanted to go to stgeorges...applied, got waitlisted, never taken off the list. so i started my freshman year at the highschool in town (very good school) thinking i would apply and go sophomore year. turns out my current school is amazing..ive made soo many new friends, my grades are good, and i would be the starting soccer goalie my sophomore year. so now im lost whether to even apply or not. i need to register for the SSAT, give my teachers my recs, do my entire app...i havent done anything. really i have no motivation to get my application in cause im enjoying my school right now. but i dont want to not apply and be unhappy later in highschool. help????

It's basically a question of which school is better for you. Maybe it /was/ better that you got waitlisted at St. George's, because then you ended up at your current school. I would examine St. George's more. Go to boardingschoolreview.com and you will be able to see Student Reviews of the school, from people who went there and graduated. Is there anything that catches your eye at St. George's? One writer said "Writing is like getting married. You shouldn't commit yourself until you can't believe your luck." Boarding schools are like that. Unless you feel butterflies in your stomach and KNOW that that is the place for you, I would go with what you're comfortable with.

And no one adjusts to moving well. It will be harder for you if you have to leave your current high school, as it sounds great.

and is it too late to give my teachers my recs? i just feel irresponsible cause last year i gave them out around thanksgiving.
the problem is, i dont want to make the decision to go to st georges and within a month ask myself, "what am i doing here?". what im really afraid of right now is making the wrong decision for myself.

Remember what I said before. Does thinking about St. George's give you butterflies in your stomach? Do you know that you absolutely HAVE to go to this school? When you visited it, what kind of feeling did you have? Was it neutral, bad, or amazing - like you couldn't believe your luck?

Sounds like your happy in your current school and you're thriving there. It's not broke, why fix it. Stay where you are. Same thing happened to my daughter. She was waitlisted for a boarding school that she really thought she wanted to attend. We moved to California in her 9th grade (from New York). She thought her life would be over by leaving New York for California. Now she's in a wonderful school here , she's made the adjustment and has great friends and is doing well. Things happen for a reason.

Yes, I agree with Olivia and lmpw. It sounds like things are going well for you at your current school. I have one question, what keeps you thinking about SGS if things are going so well for you at your current school?

i guess im still thinking about SGS because it was what i wanted, and last year it was heaven to me. my mom keeps pushing that its better for my future, and that i need the academic challenge. at my current school, i have straight As, i never study and my homework never takes more than a half hour. thats partly the reason why i was originally interested in SGS, but i love my current school now. i thought it would be horrible when i got the news that i wasnt going to SGS - my 4 closest friends were going to different highschools. i thought i wouldnt have any friends, and honestly, i hated the first week of school. but once soccer got started and i got closer to my other friends, i started to love it. and i can still go to an amazing highschool - already this year a girl was accepted to harvard and we send a couple students to ivys every year. when i was in 8th grade applying, i visited SGS and i LIKED it. this year i visited and was sittting in my interview thinking "what am i doing here??" so i guess its not meant to be. i just need to convince my mom of that.

I think you should apply and then decide if you get the acceptance letter. Your thoughts about your current school might completely change. Are there any other students in your school that are applying to boarding school?

and is it too late to give my teachers my recs?

Nope. I talked to two kids that were applying to Andover and Exeter today that are giving the recommendation forms to their teachers the week before Christmas break. That's what I'm doing too.

one of my good friends is applying to miss porters but she has like everything in, and she's probably going to get in cause she has straight As, tons of EC's, and would be an 8th generation miss porters grad.
thats good to know its not to late to give my recs. i was afraid my teachers would be annoyed that i gave it to them at the last minute, but they arnt due til feb 1 so im giving them over a month to fill them out.

8th generation? How is that possible?

and would be an 8th generation miss porters grad.

Wow...

I could imagine how upset her family would be if she didn't get in. That would suck.

If she is 8th generation, I can't imagine her not getting in with those stats.

i know its crazy...on the app, where it says list any family members that have attended miss porters there were only 4 spots so she had to include another paper listing everyone. its like her great grandma, grandma, great aunts, cousins, mom, sister, basically every woman in her family

She's so in MPS.

Now I get it, 8 relatives, not 8th generation!

haha
you guys are funny =]
