I'm completing high school in 3 years; what are my chances?

I want to major in mechanical engineering at one of the UCs. My second year of high school is almost over and I am graduating next year. My only EC last year was wrestling; this year I have none (big mistake). My weight GPA is approximately 4.2 and I am probably in the top 5% of my class. The only AP class I am taking for sure is calculus.

I am from Las Vegas, NV. Do I have any chance of being accepted to a University of California?

Is anyone willing to share their thoughts?

i graduated high school in three years (I am class of '07). PM me if you have any questions.

I wouldn't say you have a chance at even the lower UCs. Why? You're out of state; you have little to no ECs; you don't seem to have an extremely rigorous courseload; you're applying for one of the most popular engineering majors; and you're graduating early.

Would I have a better chance getting accepted to San Jose State or USC than at a UC?

Er, NOT USC, which is more selective than most of the UCs. San Jose State is more reasonable (as are most of the other Cal States). You might go to one of them and transfer later on. Or you could consider community college and then transfer.
