Hey guys,
I'm a long time follower of this forum, but have never actually posted on here. I'm currently a UC Berkeley student. I'm a transfer student, so this is my first semester at UCB. I took my first midterms last week and did very poorly on two of them. So bad that I have to get perfect scores here on out to get atleast a C in both courses. One of the conditions of being accepted into Econ is getting a B- average in Stats and an upper division econ course. Due to my scores this is very unlikely. Tomorrow is the last day to drop classes without the semester out rule and I'm considering dropping all of my classes. Maybe dropping out UC Berkeley altogether. My question is if I drop my classes tomorrow and attend in the spring will I be able to apply to the econ major, a capped major, again? Also, how do you guys think getting a W in all my courses this semester will look to future prospective employers and grad schools? Some of you might respond by telling my to talk to an adviser. I plan on doing that first thing tomorrow in the morning. I'm just hoping someone on here has been in the same predicament and can offer me some hope.

ask advisor about policy on W and admission to the econ major.

if they say that you can’t do that then do the best you can and get the highest grade possible

if you don’t get in then change majors

In order to drop now you need the dean’s permission. From what I’ve heard, this is very difficult to obtain, you’d pretty much need some sort of documented medical illness or serious tragedy in your family. You can’t just withdraw like in community college. You will probably have to change your major to an uncapped one.

Completely dropping out to try and get another **** at the major wouldnt be the best course of action in my opinion. I think all the advisors will tell you is to explore other major options because UCB Economics is so very heavily impacted. I don’t mean to be harsh but perfectly honest with you.

Were the classes insanely difficult or you didn’t prepare properly?

Yeah, is UCB econ really that hard? Because I’m trying to get into it too.

Also, talk to your professors, it sucks that the 1st midterm in the class accounts for more than 30% of your final grade.

One of the smartest kids in my high school class told me his GPA has taken a huge hit since being a student at Berkeley.

CAL sounds really scary…

My friend, you’re in one of the most best schools in the world that thousands would do anything to attend. Just work hard and do what needs to be done. Don’t quit.

where is the OP?

Hopefully studying
