Ok, so I know it's Christmas Day and all, but I'm compelled to post. First off, I'm a new user around here and this is one of my very first posts. Anyways, I take it that most of the people here are intelligent and qualified enough for any top level college. You wouldn't be reading this if you weren't. I can go on about my ECs and SAT scores, but I think we can all agree after a certain point, all of that doesn't matter. I recently was deferred from Columbia College ED and I highly believe it was due to my weak essay and "Why Columbia" response.
To many of you frequent visitors around here, I know I may seem as some desperate kid looking to steal essays from other people, but I'm not (if that holds any meaning to you). I've been constantly rewriting my college essays and I actually have to write a whole essay by the Yale deadline (I know I'm a huge procrastinator but it's always worked for me). I've semi-completed my CA essay, but it could use some work. If anybody could send me their essays including whether they were accepted, rejected, or deferred and to what schools, I would be greatly indebted. It's going to be a long vacation for me as I'll be working on these essays all week, so any sample work would be very beneficial. My style isn't that great, and I have trouble formulating and sticking to my main idea.
On another note, congrats to EVERYONE, not just those who were accepted, but everyone who reads these forums because I know from the bottom of my heart that you will all be successful in the future (I should be saying this to myself). Happy Holidays and thanks in advance - I'm hoping to read those essays =p

1) No one in their right minds will send you their essay.
2) This is highly suspicious.
3) Admissions Officers often frequent these forums; be aware that if they ID you specifically, they will scrutinize your essay to see if you are plagiarizing the work of others.
4) You should not procrastinate on what basically determines a great deal about your future.
5) If you are really just looking for some samples to inspire you, talk to your own friends - people that you actually know. The internet is anonymous. You could be anyone.
6) Good luck!

I completely agree with Jules Winfield. I will not send you my essays, but I will if you would like me to help you rewrite some parts of your essay. You could PM parts of your essay, in no order, and I can assist you with the style etc. I'm sure many members of CC would be more than happy to read your essays and give critique. Otherwise, I am confident you will not receive any help.

Haha, yeah sorry I realize I do seem very suspicious. I really appreciate your help, and just for future reference, I would never steal anybody else's work in any way. I already have a general idea of what I am writing; I was mostly seeking the ways at which people developed their main ideas because it's something I struggle with. Sorry if I came off as really conceited =(.

I do have a quick suggestion on developing ideas, read Strunks and White's Elements of Style. If you invest 10 dollars and five hours your writing skills will improve dramatically.

Oh ok, thanks alot. I've really only read one book about the college app. essay and it's not really something that directly helps writing, but rather the content. On Writing the College Application Essay by Harry Bauld. It gave me good insight and has 3 or 4 excellent (and I mean extraordinary) sample college essays. It also has a few tips from the author who was a former Brown admissions officer.

Just googled Strunks and White's Elements of Style. The book looks very familiar and I actually think my brother has a copy. My grammar and usage isn't my weak point, but rather staying on topic and conveying what I'm trying to say fluently. But thanks for the suggestion I'll probably go out and get it today (since it's really early and I'm pulling an all-nighter >.<)!

I'd recommend "Adios, Strunk and White: A Handbook for the New Academic Essay, Second Edition"
