Im in 8th grade and I think i ruined my chances at college

Ever since I was eight years old I’ve always wanted to go to USNA (Us Naval Academy). However this year I’ve hit a major road block… failing my Algebra 1 and getting a C second marking period. IM SOOO WORRIED!!!.. Have I ruined my chances of getting accepted into this school? Are my dreams dead?

Just to be clear im in 8th grade.

ARe you in the wrong level math? You aren’t doing yourself any favors by trying to take courses you aren’t ready for because you will ruin your chances if you continue getting C’s. Figure out where you need to be.

Some schools consider the 8th grade classes for math and foreign language in the hs gpa if those classes are used for high school credits. Ask your counselor.

First, USNA and most colleges don’t care what happened in 8th Grade…they only look at your High School transcript. (On the other hand, if you are taking classes at the High School, and are only in 8th grade, this may go on your HS transcript).

Second, your success in High School math is critical … your dream is not dead, but you need to figure out what you are doing wrong and fix it before you start High School. Sometimes people struggle with math, then the light clicks on and they become geniuses. You need to turn the light on quickly, so it doesn’t drag you down next year.

Agree above post ^^^ that most colleges do not look at before high school academic performance/grades, but the grades would limit what level of math/language/science classes that you can take in HS. Usually, I don’t like to recommend tutoring services, but in your case, you should use this summer to boost your understanding in math. Try to borrow math subject books, prepbooks, Khan Academy to help yourself self study Algebra, pre-calculus, ect. If you are need a tutoring center or know any math camps available in the summer, you should enroll in them.

You need to change how you are studying.
