I'm in a lot of stress. Where do I go from here? Should I transfer? re-admission?

I'll give you guys a bit of a background.

I'm a north carolina resident but I enrolled in a university in Pakistan to study computer science.

The main reason for me doing this was that education over there was cheap.

my plan was to get my undergrad from over there and then complete my masters back from the U.S.

However, After having completed 2 semesters at my university in Pakistan, I found out that no college in the U.S will accept you for a masters program if you have a CGPA for less than 3.0 and my Cgpa is 2.3

Now, I have no idea what to do.

At first, I wanted to just start over from the U.S but the problem with that is that most deadlines for fall has passed! (if some haven't, please let me know)

Then, I though maybe I should transfer but I had a lot of courses less than 'C' and no university I know in NC will accept those. unless they accept my A levels Mathematics credit and O levels subjects(will they?) I am short on transferable credits.

I am twenty years old and in a lot of stress. Someone please help me out.

Having completed 2 semesters of post-HS college coursework, you’ll be considered a transfer applicant in any US university.

but only the subjects that I completed with a C or better

Personally, I think that you should retake those classes that you got lower than a ‘C’ in; and at some schools they let you retake ‘C’ classes also. OR you could go to a community college and take some classes there to get more credits. Since most of your credits won’t transfer, I think that’s your best option. It’ll be cheap too since you’re a NC resident and can go to CC for cheap because of that.

No, when it comes to who is considered a fr vs. transfer applicant, it’s the the sem/credits you TOOK, not which you passed.

When passed courses matter is the when it comes to the classes that the school accepts as transfer units.

…

Oh and, can I mix n match my credits? some from my old college and some from community college?

The main college I’m targetting here is App state

EDIT

I think I get it. You’re saying that, if I ‘took’ 30 + credit hours, I can transfer to the university but in that university, I will have only the credits to which I have a C or more to my name. Correct?

Yes, that’s right. Yes, you will use all college credits, even if you took them during HS.

The first thing you need to do for any school you’re thinking of applying to is read their admissions website to see what their policies and requirements are. For App State:

[Transfer Students | Admissions | Appalachian State University](http://admissions.appstate.edu/transfer-students)

Based on the first and last sentences, they consider you a transfer applicant.

You have to satisfy the other parts about number of transferable credits and gpa as well. If you have further questions, you might want to contact App State and ask them about things like which credits are transferable.

I just don’t know how to thank you. You have reduced my stress level A LOT!!

I am going to contact them now first thing tomorrow.

Thank you so much!

Glad to help! Best of luck to you, it’ll work out!

I E-mailed them so they could clarify things a little bit. This is what they had to say.

“Thank you for your email. Transferable coursework means you must have completed (with a grade of “C” or better) or be in the progress of completing 30 semester hours of coursework that transfers to ASU. Non-transferable coursework would be courses that are developmental, technical in nature, internships/practicums, credit by exam. Etc. We hope this clarifies but let us know if you have additional questions.”

Still doesn’t clear it up for me.

Should I just ask them, “Can someone transfer having only 22 credit hours with a Grade of C and better?” Or would it leave a bad impression or something?

The section I cited above says you need 30 transferrable credits to transfer, as does their email. The clarification they’re making in the email is that those credits have to be in academic courses, not things like say auto mechanics or medical technician.

You asked earlier about CC courses, are those included in your 22 credits? If so, it sounds like you need to spend a semester at at CC to pick up at least 8 more credits this fall in order to apply to App State for spring sem.

Does that make sense?

Currently, I have completed (I think ) 32 credit hours of my college

16 of them are with a C or better.

This semester, I will be completing 15/16 more, which will be around 47/8 credit hours completed with around 30 more than a C or better if I complete all the next 16 with a C or better.

So erm, I still don’t get it.

Does transferable credit hours mean credit hours on which I have C and better AND ones which aren’t technical stuff or does it just mean the latter.

Both. You must both pass the class and the class needs to be acceptable to App State.

The C or better part is easy to determine.

What is more difficult is what App State considers ‘transferable’ academic coursework. I recommend that you contact them and ask if you can fax or scan and email the titles and descriptions of your courses to see if they are transferable.

That’s all I can do for you on a forum, you really need to contact the school and talk to them.

Good luck.

this may sound weird but why on earth would u go to school in pakistan of all places??? like im sure it would be cheaper at unc chapel hill or another unc campus???

Let’s just say it was a bad idea (studying in Pakistan)

I had no cost of living over there and it was very cheap. I thought I could do four years very cheaply and then come back for masters but it didn’t turn out so good.

I’ve emailed the uni guys. Let’s see what they say.

Yeah, I think it was a really dumb idea. That place you are at probably has zero name recognition, anyway. There are cheap schools in NC you could have gone to.

It has a lot of local name recognition but of course, not worth it.

Anyway, still not late.

The transfer people at App state have no idea if I can be a transfer student and transfer less than 30 credit hours so they’ve redirected me to the admissions office.

One thing which surprised me quite a bit was that they said they do not accept A level credit hours? How can they not accept that but accept A.P :/

App state still hasn’t replied.

Do you guys know about any other universities out there in North Carolina that offer computer science and will be willing to accept my as a transfer student?
