Questions from a nervous High School student.

To whom it may concern,

Currently im a senior in high school, and have just been denied by the only college which I applied for, NC State. I applied for the college of engineering, the most selective college at NC state.

The following are my scores.
SAT: Math 650, CR 610, WRT 480
GPA: 3.3 Weighted
CR: 75 of 330
Course Rigor - 3 AP's, 13 HNRS.

With that said, my goal is to attend NCSU as a transfer student as soons as possible.
I have plans to attend a CC hear in Fayetteville, but im reluctant if NC State will find them
"good" enough. So far these are my CC options:

Welcome to Fayetteville Technical Community College

Sandhills Community College - Home

I am willing to look at other options if it would increase my chances of getting into my dream school - NC state.

I plan on maintaing a perfect 4.0 GPA in CC; if I were to do so would that practically guarentee my acceptance into a less selective branch - such as the college of social sciences and humanities?
Also I saw that 30 college hours were mandatory for NC state university, would it be viable to take 15 hours during the summer and 15 during the fall? Would I be able to attend that spring? Would I meet all the deadlines?

Thanks for answering my questions, please feel free to add anything unrelated to my questions to help my chances at NC state.

Anyone help?

It really depends on the school. I’m sorry, I don’t know anything abut NC State, but I know how getting an answer is nice. You need to check with NC State to see what they require. I know for the university I’m applying to, you cannot apply for spring admissions of your first year, even if you have enough credits (from what I understand). Make sure you check and see that before you take 15 credits in the summer (unless that’s what you really want). Hope that helps!

Spursstar13,
I don’t know much about the CCs in that area, but the first thing I would say is that going to ANY CC is better than none. You cannot be a transfer student if you don’t go to some kind of college next year. With that said, I don’t think NCSU would think that a CC was not “good enough”. If you put in the time and the work and get the grades, take honors or advanced classes to show you want to work harder - you will be absolutely fine.
I also don’t know much about NCSU, so I don’t exactly know what you mean about hours - hours of community service? Hours of classes? Or are those numbers required numbers of credits?
Either way, you can absolutely spend your summer at a college taking classes. Many colleges offer these programs - you should follow up quickly on this if you are interested because I believe that a lot of the deadlines to apply are coming up.
You might also consider taking the SATs again to raise that writing score. This is also something you can do over the summer.
Otherwise, just choose a CC that appeals to you. You don’t want to spend a year waiting for your life to start while everyone else you know is having the time of their lives. Choose a CC that you think has a possibility of being a place you could have fun at.

Good luck and let us know what happens!

Thanks guys, it did help!

so I don’t exactly know what you mean about hours - hours of community service? Hours of classes? Or are those numbers required numbers of credits?

that was pertaining to 30 credit hours need to transfer.

I will defintily opt to take the SAT again, my writing score was bogus because I misread the prompt.

To UVA: I will double check on that, because that would be a waste to take them during the summer…

Thanks a lot and any more comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again,
