Ok, Irish, you've described a lot of dorms. Tell me about Sorin now. Specifically, what's a triplet like?

Unfortunately I don't have good news on this one. Sorin is a cool dorm (but older, over 100 years old I believe). It is right by the Basilica and the grotto, which for someone like me is very nice! The problem is that Sorin is known for two things, very small rooms and very (and I do mean very) high ceilings. I think the ceilings are 18 feet high. Basically, your triple is going to be the size of many other people's doubles. To counter this, the secret is to buy or build a loft, so basically build up. If you do this (and I have seen amazing things in Sorin) you can do pretty well. However, I personally would be afraid to sleep 15 feet off the ground (but my friends did it). Just plan for a small room!!!

My son just spent his freshman year in Sorin, and it worked very well for him. He was also in a triple (a well-known triple) that made us shudder when we first saw it. But he and his roommates got along very well, and they made it work for them.

This year he will have a bigger room - for which we are all grateful. He really likes Sorin and wouldn't want to be anywhere else. It's been a really good experience for him.

I stayed in Sorin back when I was a prospect. Two things about it:

1) The basilica bell tower will chime at the most random points in your day.
2) The corner rooms (called the Turrent Rooms) are huge and known for some well attended parties.

I think I got placed in the basement of Sorin. Is that as bad as it sounds?

I don't think so, in fact in my dorm the rooms are a bit bigger in the basement and it may be a bit cooler during the hot months. I don't know about Sorin specifically, however.

Hmmmm, I'm in a basement turret...fun

My son was in a basement turret. Which room are you in? I don't know that it's cooler down there, but he did say it was warmer in the winter. Just bring a fan.
