I'm memorizing hundreds and hundreds of SAT words ... but I don't see them on actual practice tests. Maybe I'm memorizing the ones that aren't commonly used? Can anyone just name some few MUST KNOW SAT words that are commonly used so if I see that word on the sentence completions or on passages, I know what the word means right away? I just want the SAT words that are commonly used ..... I want to memorize the ones that are actually used a lot!

I don’t think that memorizing SAT words is worth the time it takes.

I never memorized vocab for the exam, and I did fine. Besides, most of the kids I know who did that couldn’t remember all the words on test day. Just relax and get used to taking the test. And, if you really want to learn vocab, read a few more books. That helped me a lot because I could remember examples of words being used in context. Good luck, though I’m sure you won’t need it! =)

Keep studying on vocab. I took everyone’s advice to not do it and now I’m grinding vocab lists everyday because it’s the only thing that can improve my SAT score. I would have preferred to gradually learn it like everyone else.

I remember using “Hot words for the SAT” or something similar to that in high school. Waste of money and time. In any case, a good method to prepare for something like this is by way of a two-pronged approach. Mastering root-words and writing a meaningful essay/story with a list of words you don’t know. There’s something to said about the human mind and its tendency to recall information more efficiently when done in this fashion. I may be wrong but just my two cents. Good luck.
