im shooting for an ivy league school..will doing the following hurt my chances?

well...we all know that AP exams are coming up in a month or less.
i am taking 3 AP classes-- physics b, history, english...
I am passing all with an A..however, I am having a difficult time understanding physics b.

i fear that it will take wayyy too much time to prepare for physics B, when i could be studying history or english..subject areas where i could get a 5.

so here's my plan: to slightly ignore studying for the ap physics B exam and concentrate on english and history... :| in order to receive a 5,5,2 instead of of a 3,3,3....good idea?

Will flunking AP physics exam (or not even showing the score) look bad on ivy apps....im majoring in history or international relations.

You’re not even required to report your AP scores.

And some schools don’t make you take AP exams, so they might just think you didn’t take them

As long your grades in the actual course are okay, you’ll be fine. they care more that you took the course and passed rather than took the exam and passed. The exam’s just there for college credit/placement, it has no bearing in the admissions process - especially since most AP exams are completed after the admissions process during your senior year.

im a junior btw

and my physics teacher just makes it seem like passing the exam is life or death…and she sucks as a teacher–thats why i cant freaking understand anything.
she goes all over the place from topic to topic without even stopping…it sucks…no one understands anything in that class -_-

Your teacher can’t fail you for what you get on the exam - scores don’t come out until the summer. So don’t listen to her threats and try your hardest. I’m sure you’ll at least get a 3 if you’ve been doing well in the class all year.

Is it US History? In that case, give up studying for that one. I studied for about twenty minutes the night before the AP test and got a 5. It doesn’t take much.

no the problem is AP Physics…

but you are trying to say that AP US History is easy?? i am really good at history and i love it…and i really want to get a 5 :p

No, I know Physics is the problem. Sorry, I didn’t explain that well. What I meant was if your history is US History, you don’t need to concentrate on it at all if you’ve had a good teacher and you’re good at the subject, so you could potentially spend more time on Physics.

And yes, I’m definitely trying to say APUSH is easy. Like I said, 20 minutes of cramming the night before=5. And that’s not just me, I’ve heard of many people having similar experiences.

I’ve never gotten a straight answer on this: how much do AP scores really impact admissions?

“how much do AP scores really impact admissions?”–my question exactly in more general terms.

and thanks raychacha! i just really want to ensure that i get a 5 though…i wont feel comfortable cramming.

If you have an A in the class I would guess colleges would expect you to at least pass the test, if not get a 4 or 5.

she gives extra credit :p

Yeah, I second those who say don’t bother studying for APUSH. I studied the night before with no other preparation and got a 4.

What’s the curve for physics? If it’s lenient enough you should be able to do better than a 2.

ooh okayy.
i just feel slightly overwhelmed

i hear the curve is very lenient for physics b

To those saying they got a 4 or 5 on the APUSH exam with only a little bit of study the night before…

HOW is that possible? Do you guys just have an amazing memory or something? :/

im just not gonna show up for the test :stuck_out_tongue:
ive already decided. why waste my time?
