I think it's the fin aid that's holding them back. I've found that for lots of us acceptees the money is alot better at other schools. I think NYU is the greatest, but I've got to seriously look at the aid picture. My total loans will be 50% higher at NYU than any of my other top choices. This is going to make my decision agonizing.

Not to be rude, but people really need to stop saying "NYU is the greatest" before they actually come here. The fact is we have a lot of people who hate it, and the fact that 10% of freshmen transfer out of nyu (compared to 1-3% at comparable schools) holds us back in rankings just as much as financial aid.

well first off let me just make clear that I personally do like NYU, so I don't hear the pointless retort "if you dont like it go transfer" from someone.

But theres alot of reasons, feel like the education isnt worth all the money, have trouble making friends, no campus spirit, but usually everyone just has an over glamorized view about what nyu and "the city" is [notice the huge parity between us being number 1 dream school yet much lower in academic rankings]. Alot of people coming in viewing NYU as the greatest, coolest, most fun, most cultured, most diverse, most partyish place in the world, and when you come with that expectation you're going to be disappointed....I think at other schools people have more reasonable expectations going into college so its not as big as a problem.

Matt, the reason for that is probably that kids want the 'campus' feel or whatever, whereas people here are looking for the 'prestige'.

I personally don't think a list of 18 year olds' screen names makes a college worthy of the 'top cc universities' list, though I am unfamiliar with the criteria used to determine if a college deserves a place in that group.

But whatever floats your boat.
As you were.

They're pretty similar if you ask me, especially UVA and NYU. As far as popularity on CC is concerned, NYU wins. It has more posts in its forum than the Notre Dame and UVA formus combined.

These schools are exactly the same as the top 27 on the US News list. That's how CC determines who's on and who's not. If you don't like it, blame the US News and not CC.

If that's the case, that's just ridiculous. Why is the U.S. News the ultimate authority as to what colleges are "top colleges"? I think the colleges in CC Top Universities section should be chosen based on post count or some other factor with relevance to this site rather than a newsmagazine's list. It's not just NYU either. Schools like Tufts, Boston College, and USC, schools that deserve to be listed as "Top Universities" aren't listed.

firewalker, get your feet out of the flames and stop being so jumpy. relaaaaaaaax. drink some water. get a life. get laid. get wasted. chiiiiilll all right man?

he can't get laid he goes to NYU!!!!!!! #%^^#@^#@ :D

Hepstar - wow. I had no idea their test score averages were that low (at UVA and ND). It definitely puts NYU in a different light, though I'm sure UVA is at a disadvantage as well because it is public and must therefore make concessions in its admissions process. Notre Dame just isn't as great as I thought, even though both schools are ranked quite a bit higher than NYU. Interesting.

*** are you talking about? there are more girls than guys at nyu. about 10% of the guys are gay, so that rules out even more competition. unless you have the face of a dog or smell like trash, you can get a girl!

it's the girls who have problems hooking up! again, all the hot ones are gay or taken! we have to resort to *****y losers who haunt sites like CC and whose hand is their best friend!
