I'm Starting a Petition...

It's only 10%??? I heard it was more like 30.

You really shouldn't insult firewalker like that. If he has the face of a dog or smells like trash, I'm sure he doesn't want you telling everyone. ;) Anyways, he's the one that always says it's hard to get a girl at NYU.

hey it's nothing personal. i'm just sick of people *****ing and whining and then not doing anything to solve their problems.

OT but are there really 10% gay guys? Whats the real percentage if any?

i love how ellocknyu who never has gone to nyu tells me i'm wrong about MY experiences at nyu. classic.

Ha. (10 char) :p

I have a message for all the people who keep complaining about NYU and my petition:

If you don't agree w/me or the petition, don't sign it! It's as simple as that. I'm not forcing you to do anything, so stop ****ing complaining! No one is saying that NYU is the best school ever. I'll be the first to admit that fact. Hell, it isn't even the best school in NYC (Columbia is). However, myself and the others who signed the petition feel that it should be included in the Top Universities section because of its popularity and because there are comparable schools (ie: Notre Dame, UVA, UNC Chapel Hill) which are included.

"WHO CARES?!?!?! Noone ****ing cares, that's who."

That's exactly why we have so many problems today, "Noone ****ing cares."

"i love how ellocknyu who never has gone to nyu tells me i'm wrong about MY experiences at nyu. classic."

I love how you think your view of NYU reflects the views of everyone else, thus making it unworthy of "Top University" status. I don't think your opinion is wrong. It's your OPINION though. Believe it or not, there are actually people who are disappointed w/Harvard and the like, but it doesn't mean that Harvard isn't a top school.

what's the popularity of a message board got to do with being a top university? does a comparable range of sat scores automatically dictate that one university is comparable to another? How can the opinion of 30 people who post on a forum be more indicative than usnews (no matter how bs their grading system may be) of the academic quality of any school? What authority do any of you have to say that nyu is truly comparable to notredame, uva, and unc chapel hill? don't think so highly of yourselves if you go to the university, and don't comment on the university unless you have the experience to truly compare nyu with the aforementiond schools. if nyu truly deserved to be up there, then it would be up there. for now, we just have to grit our teeth, excel, and through our merits make nyu an indisputed top university.

Based on my (perhaps outdated) personal experience, Dartmouth should not be on that list. But I'm all for inclusion...

Hepstar's rationale for this is sound.

"what's the popularity of a message board got to do with being a top university?"

The section is called "CC Top Universities," therefore, it does relate to the message board.

"does a comparable range of sat scores automatically dictate that one university is comparable to another?"

Brand had said before that UVA and Notre dame were much stronger academic institutions than NYU. I provided SAT score ranges and acceptance rates for the 3 schools to show that they're comparable academically. If you were basing it just on SAT scores, than Tufts should definitely be included w/its average SAT that's in excess of 2100.

Mistletoe says: 'people at other schools (other than NYU ) have more reasonable expectations going into college.' Isn't it truely amazing that mistletoe knows what all the 'people' at all the 'other schools' have has expectations. Hmmmmm... I think the only thing more absurd than his bogus claim is any one of you that accepts it as true, simply because he says so. Mistletoe offers little more than a wayward opinion. Everyone who feels NYU is great than that's MY OPINION as well!!!

My point is you can't say NYU is great until you have experienced it, everyone here keeps bringing it up to god-like proportions after maybe spending an afternoon there. reality != fantasy. I'm trying to help you guys so you make an accurate opinion before investing 4 years of your life an 200k, knowing that 10% of freshmen do not stay at NYU for a second year, and that our low rank is due in part to low satisfaction in surveys are facts, and something I would hope you'd want to be aware of to make accurate decisions. I'm not saying I hate NYU, nor am I saying you will hate it, but the "number 1 dream school " pathology on these boards paint an unrealistic picture

right matt's view is not new. Obviously not everyone hates it and a ton of people love it, but if you haven't gone to school there yet who are you to say what it's like?!

Hepstar:

There's no evidence that the mods actually look at the threads without having a complaint reported, so there's no reason to believe just adding names to a thread and mailing them to "look at this!" will produce results. I think what you're trying to do is a good thing (this forum kicks any other institution's forum's behind!) but your method is off. If you really want NYU added to CC's list of top schools, just contact an admin/mod ASAP and ask for the change instead spending your time arguing with people.

I most certainly can say NYU is great without having attended a class. I and my family have visited NYU nuimerous times and I've met successful alumni who know a great deal more about NYU than mistletoe LOL. I believe that in four years NYU will have me situated quite well for might next career undertaking.

I answered this question a few pages ago. My plan is to get enough people to agree w/me, then contact the mod w/the list of people who agree w/me. That way, the mods will see that it isn't just me who wants this change.

"I'm not saying I hate NYU, nor am I saying you will hate it, but the "number 1dream school " pathology on these boards paint an unrealistic picture"

Mattistotle, I do not feel that NYU is the greatest school, or even the #1 dream school. This is what I said in post #66:

"No one is saying that NYU is the best school ever. I'll be the first to admit that fact. Hell, it isn't even the best school in NYC (Columbia is). However, myself and the others who signed the petition feel that it should be included in the Top Universities section because of its popularity and because there are comparable schools (ie: Notre Dame, UVA, UNC Chapel Hill) which are included."

It's the fact that very comparable schools such as UVA, UNC, and Notre Dame are included while NYU is being overlooked is what I'm trying to change. There is no way that a school w/over 30,000 posts in it's forum (which is more than 13 of the 19 top universities) shouldn't be a CC Top University. There is no way that UVA, UNC, and Notre Dame are that much better than NYU. All 3 schools have very similar average SAT scores and acceptance rates, which are objective criteria, not someone's opinion.

Hepstar: What I'm saying is that you have enough people already. Just ask the mods and forget arguing. See what the mods have to say, since they'll have the final word, not the people in this forum.

1) The US News is doing everyone a favor by gathering and compiling raw data and giving us a list. Try doing that on your own. It won't be fun. The rankings are convenient and practical, which is why they are popular despite their controversies.

2) Post counts don't determine top universities; they determine popular universities.

The US News rankings are not opinions. They are combinations of statistics, including SAT scores and acceptance rates, used to quantitatively rank the schools.
