I'm still giving UC transfer advice

Hi everyone,

This thread is for any UC transfer questions anyone may have. I owe a lot to College Confidential and would like to help out future transfer students. I'm a UC Davis transfer student for Fall 2012 for CS. I can try my best to answer your questions as honestly as I can.

Are honors classes worth taking for UCLA TAP?

For a student with 1 year of previous 4 year college work with a very low GPA, is it still possible for me to transfer??

I backed out of a Cal State after 1 year, and transferred to a local community college.

Is it still possible?

@supafreshkid
it really depends on your major, but I didnt do TAP or TAG and still got into UCLA, UCI, and UCSB…Im headed to westwood so if you got any more questions just hit me up

How many major pre reqs did you complete? By the time I apply I will be missing at least 2 or 3

I completed all pre-reqs in two different majors…most schools APPEAR to be using completion of pre-reqs before transfer as a tool to seperate students into the traditional: accepted, maybe, and denied catagories, therefore pick one major to complete all of the pre-reqs in.

So I have 2 questions. 1) Is the UC prompts available for transfers already? I want to get a go head start on my essay. 2) How does the TAG process work? When do we need to fill out the info and what comes out of it?

^^^
1a.)Tell us about a personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution or experience that is important to you. What about this quality or accomplishment makes you proud and how does it relate to the person you are?

1b.)What is your intended major? Discuss how your interest in the subject developed and describe any experience you have had in the field — such as volunteer work, internships and employment, participation in student organizations and activities — and what you have gained from your involvement?

2) [University of California : Transfer Admission Guarantee](http://uctag.universityofcalifornia.edu/)
above is the link for the UC TAG website which should be filled out and submited a month prior to when the UC app is available. once you finish ur TAG online it should give you a confirmation of some kind that you need to punch in while filling out the UC app. in the UC app it will give you a chance where you can denote that you are a TAP/TAG student. If your TAG is accepted you will be guaranteed admission to the one UC that you selected as your TAG school…if not your UC app will still be processed, just not as a TAG applicant.

Awesome thanks for the reply, is that usually the prompt or is there a way to see it on a website? Also I know we have to do TAU for UCs, but do CSUs use that also?

The UCs will probably release the prompts officially some time in September on the UC website, perhaps even sooner. The TAU for CSUs I’m not sure about since I only applied to UCs, but I would imagine that they would have a similar feature in their application.
