I'm terrified again now!

Yesterday I received an e-mail titled "UCLA Request for Supplemental Information‏". The e-mail says it's optional and when I log in, it has two essay questions and a space for fall grades and to confirm spring courses. Should I fill it out? Will it help my chances if I can do a good job? Does this mean anything in terms of possible admission? I'm out of state by the way.

It's a good sign, as far as I'm concerned. OOS is basically impossible, and this means that they are at least considering you.

I you don't mind telling, what are your stats? I'm OOS as well (but didn't get the email) and know that I have virtually no chance, but I'd just like a comparison.

No way! The acceptance rates are roughly the same.

of course fill it out.

The acceptance rates may be about the same, but you have to realize who is applying out of state. Many are recruited athletes, so that throws off the acceptance rate a bit. And the other OOS applicants are usually insanely intelligent and talented, so the person-to-person competition is tougher (IMHO).

Indeed. Though not a recruited athlete I am both insansely intelligent and talented.

Yes and they don't publish information about the types of OOS students.

Insanely? What makes you think that? They're a little bit more qualified, typically, but its not like trying to get into Harvard. It's over-hyped, IMO. I think FireEmblem or Fisico posted a link from the UC Registrar about how UCLA doesn't consider OOS as an issue (while Berkeley does) IRT its admissions process.

Doubtful.

my stats are not near incredible. My highest SAT in one sitting was 2100 and my UC GPA was 3.93. My SAT II scores were 660 in US History and 710 in Lit. I have average ECs that include volunteer work and stuff. Judging by CC, I thought they would immediately laugh and throw me in the rejects pile. I do have difficult life circumstances.. maybe that's what caught their attention.

You are absolutely right and you should do your very best in responding. Don't be terrified -- be HAPPY. Good luck!

Definitely fill it out. From what I've heard, it's usually for borderline applicants and it can only help.

I don't think UCLA is terribly difficult to get into as an OOS (not as hard as, say, Berkeley), though it is difficult. Likewise, in-state admission is difficult. If you look at UCLA's common data set, under admissions factors, it says state residency is "not considered."

(Berkeley lists it as "very important," with GPA, rigor of course load, and essays.)

thanks guys! In a case like this I don't know what I'd do without CC
