I only have two more GE classes that I need to take. I'm not getting my AA degree because it's too complicated and I went to a CSU my first yr. I only have like 2 more prerequisites I need to take for my political science major. I want to double major in psych. Should I take these prerequisites? Would I still be able to graduate in two years once I transfer? Poli sci is typically not a high unit major.

If you want to at least have the possibility of double majoring once you transfer you should try to get as many prereqs in for psych as you can. The last thing you want is to get there, realize for certain that you want to double major and have to start from scratch. Or getting to your UC finding that it would have been possible had you done some of the prereqs already.

psych and poli sci are both low unit majors and both are considered “easy” by most people. I believe it’s possible(at UCI at least) to transfer and double major with both and graduate in 1 year and a quarter provided you’re coming in with 70 semester units.

Why not? I am in the exact same situation- I am applying for fall 2013 and I have all but two GE classes completed, over 60 units, and all of my original major’s prereqs (as well as several of the upper div reqs) completed. So this fall + spring I’ll take the prereqs for a second major. If you have a full year and only 2 GE classes to take, theoretically you could complete prereqs for 2 more majors…just to give yourself options if you decide poli sci is not for you later.

You could definitely transfer in 2 years, especially if you take summer sessions. You may not be able to have tons of electives each semester, but 2 majors in 2 years isn’t that hard, especially since neither major requires massive strings of classes that have tons of prereqs. You just have to decide what is more important to you: is double majoring really necessary? Would you rather double major and have a potentially lower GPA? Would you rather double major than single major and have a minor and multiple electives to make yourself more well rounded? Would you rather double major with a high GPA than have a single major with a high GPA plus work experience/internship? Would you rather double major than devote your time to becoming extremely educated in your one major, writing an honors thesis, taking grad classes, and preparing yourself for grad school? For me, the answer is yes, because my 2nd major may lead to jobs (econ or applied math). But when I was considering other double majors that weren’t as “practical” (like history, psych, or poli sci), the answer was no.

I got into UCLA as a History Major but plan to double in Anthro since I got all of my pre-reqs done at PCC. From what I understand tho, I wont have enough units to meet the graduation requirement and can start in on Grad work early. its a win-win

Be sure the units will transfer- there is a transfer equivalency link.
Probably a good idea regardless as class scheduling is not always predictable. Two classes you want could be scheduled at the same time, or could be full. Most colleges will assign you to an adviser when you get there- and make sure both majors are declared on your record as some classes could be closed to non-majors- or majors could have priority. This is not just for UNC but for any school as sometimes it’s not easy to get al the classes you want every semester, so taking as many prereqs as you can makes sense.
