im visiting NYU from cali this friday...any tips?

im going to get there on friday night (11 PM) dont have a place to stay yet..recommend any hotels? places to eat?

saturday and sunday - we have nothing planned

monday - tour at NYU and my friend is showing me around

is there anything i SHOULD see?
or do?

crepes and falafels!

We will be there in a few week for a college visit, where should we go for crepes and falafels?

in reality, i would recommend walking around the NYU area ~at night~. night is completely different from day, and you should see how you feel on the campus when it’s not bustling with students streaming out of buildings.

I hear Taim in the village is a good place for falafel. I know it was on an episode of Throwdown With Bobby Flay.

I would definitely walkaround the area of Washington Square, take a campus tour and have dinner or lunch in a local restaurant. There is an Irish/mexican restaurant (only in NY) on Waverly Place called Murphy’s y Gonzalez which is pretty good. Right near the campus. But there are tons of restaurants on Bleeker St. and all the little side streets off Bleeker. I think I have eaten in Most of them. There is also many on Macdougal which is the same street Hayden Dorm is located. If you can, walk also in the evening to get a feel for the area. I must say it is just as busy at night as it is in the day. I cannot attest to any hotels cause I have never stayed in any.
Good luck and have a good visit.

Shop at Uniglo

Dress warmly & bring umbrella.

okay thanks guys!

Dress for the weather (low-mid-upper 40s) and DO NOT take Supershuttle from the airport. Supershuttle is a total disaster, especially at 11PM and especially at JFK (fragmented terminals, lots of circling). Better off taking a taxi or a black car ($45 plus tip) anyways if you’re a party of two or more (Supershuttle=$25/person+tip). For falafels, I like Mahmoun’s on St. Marks and Macdougal (there’s two of them).

Actually I’m curious about crepes as well. The only place I know is the one next to Tasty Delight on Waverly, but they’re actually not very good. Anyone know any other place?

Oh and for food: Pommes Frites (2nd and 7th) for french fries, Veniero’s (1st and 11th) for cheesecake.

As for hotels, people told me they liked Washington Square Hotel on Waverly and Wash Square North. I would suggest just pricelining something in Manhattan though, the subway system is great so it won’t be a problem going back and forth.

As for stuff to do, if you like shopping, I have two words for you: Herald Square.

Go to Cafe Reggio on MacDougal for coffee. You can see it in the movie “Shaft.”

There’s a crepe stand that comes out at night in Astor Place. I’ve never tried it, though.
