Impatient Out-of-Stater

Have any OOS applicants heard back? I think I'm going to go insane if I have to wait another day! Also, if you have heard, did you get a decision for the school in general first, then the major/department, and lastly Plan II? Or in a different order? And will the actual letter come before the online status changes?
Ughghggghh this is my top school and the wait is killing me!
Thanks and good luck :)

I called the school and they said they are going to start changing statuses mid Feb. I am from Cal and this is my top choice but I was already deferred from 1 school in Tx so the anxiety and waiting is killing me. Good luck! I know some kids in my area and they got in but they all had a 4.0, I’m less than a 4.0 (weighted) and the school that deferred me would have accepted me last year. Accepted to Baylor, TCU, deferred SMU and waiting for UT. SATs in the low 1800s. I posted a thread on UT CC asking what my chances are if I was deferred from SMU, didn’t get a good response but honestly, they’re not an admissions counselor so I’m keeping my fingers crossed. 2 people from my school (Orange county) have already heard- they applied earlier than me and they were both accepted into the school, then major and then honors. They both have above a 4.0 with SATs above 2100.

My D called and left a message yesterday and the our admiss counselor emailed her today. She said she didn’t know when we will hear. It is a top 3 school for her too. We wanted to visit during Presidents’ Week vacation, but I don’t want to purchase plane tix until we have an answer as they are quite expensive.

Knowing that UT accepts very few OOS students - I am surprised that there are so many people for whom UT is a top choice. Well, to be honest - I am OOS as well and UT is one of my top two -:)

My son heard a couple of weeks ago. He was accepted and also accepted in LHP. I think that your SAT’s might be the problem. He has 2 other OOS friends who have also been accepted.

When did you apply?
I applied in the beginning of October to make sure I could apply to Plan II by October 15, and I heard back from the actual school in early December and from Plan II around Dec. 15.

I hope you hear back soon!!

She applied on 9/16. 13 kids applied from her high school and not a single person has heard yet.

MaddyK- stats? if you applied for Plan II I would assume really high SAT, GPA, ACT??

Stacespace- ranked school? Does your school have a good history of UT admitting your students?

I’m from Alabama and I’m currently waiting on my admission results. Two other people from my school applied, and only one of us has been accepted (she applied to Fine Arts.) I have a 4.3GPA and a 2210SAT and I’m anxiously waiting to hear back from McCombs. Good luck, everyone!

We are a top-rated high school in NJ. We have been ranked in various national rankings as well. It is a VERY competitive school, and as such, stopped ranking its seniors a bunch of years ago as the stress was out-of-control!! However, there is a class profile that is given to the colleges when the kids apply that breaks down how many students fall into each .25 interval of GPAs. The top 25% has a 3.75 or higher. Our mean SAT scores are 225 points higher than the country’s average and our ACT scores are 4.4 points higher. Last year there were 844 AP tests administered at our school with 77% scoring a 4 0r 5 and 94% scoring a 3 or higher. We recently won an award from College Board for increasing the number of kids taking APs while simultaneously increasing our scores. The town is a well-educated, upper middle class suburb of NYC, where many students are strongly encouraged to succeed. Many have private tutors throughout their 4 years, SAT/ACT tutors, and private college advisors. Just to give you an idea, this year 59 of 402 seniors applied to UMichigan and 42 applied to Cornell. Texas has accepted 14/29 in the last 5 years, but only 5 have attended.

My D has taken very challenging courses, including this year (physics and spanish 5 are herr easy classes?),outstanding ECs with leadership positions in most, and very good stats in an highly competitive environment. She is self-motivated, dedicated, and passionate. She also now has hives due to the stress she is feeling. Her camp friend from a less competitive school in NY (and she was the only one to apply to Texas) was accepted in October. We have both been checking 100 times a day since!!

My son didn’t apply until Nov. 30 but I think that Liberal arts may have let applicants know earlier. His friend, however, applied to communications and also heard. He actually heard in Dec.

@scaltotx, actually my stats aren’t that great (at least compared to others who seem to apply to Plan II) - 2040 SAT and 4.2 GPA (heavily weighted - UW is closer to 3.7). I did do okay on a Latin SAT subject test; maybe that would help somehow? I don’t know. I’m hopeful, but not letting everything ride on Plan II. Hopefully I’ll still get into UT even without the Plan II.
It’s weird to me that some decisions were mailed in December, and last year, others didn’t hear till April. I hope we all hear soon though!

My D applied to Communications. Yikes!

What exactly is Plan II

Hi everyone. Good luck to all of you but don’t worry about the lack of notification right now. My D applied last year, GPA greater than W 4.2, NW 3.95, SATs around 1900, applied to School of Communications Nov 30 and was accepted on Feb 19, 2011 I think. Hardly anyone from OOS or out of the in state auto admit rule heard until Feb 19-21 I believe because around these days everyone was posting their acceptance on the day they heard. Rarely does anyone get notified until mid to late Feb if they’re OOS. With all of your stats here you all look pretty good so I think you all have a great chance! Just give it about 10 more days and then I’m sure you will hear.

My D had an interview with her school and she was told that she would be evaluated 6 ways: 1) rank- she went to an non ranked school; 2) SAT/ACT- she probably had lower compared to others 3)GPA; 4)college credit and APs- she had several AP courses; 5) essays- she did all 3; and 6) any recommendations or outstanding ECs. She had a lot of volunteering, did a special program at Brown University and had a great recommendation letter. I also think that the portfolio she did that emphasized her experience in communications that she sent to the AD of the program helped.

She loves Texas!

Thanks Carmom!

For all you accepted OOS students – the admissions office and the Student Government Out-of-State Students Agency is putting on a number of Q&A sessions on campus for visiting OOS students this spring. There will be snacks and we’re trying to get the Student Government president to attend some of them (since she’s an OOS student as well!). The dates are (all 3-4pm):

2/27
3/9
3/19
4/6
4/9
4/23

You can sign up for these by going to the admissions website ([Campus Visits for Freshman Prospects | Be a Longhorn](http://bealonghorn.utexas.edu/meetus/visit/freshmen)) and registering for an “Out of State Students Q&A Session”. Hope to see some of you there!

Darn - we are going to be down there on 2/24 to tour the LHC since S didn’t see it when we toured last summer. Too bad we will miss that.

Hey,
I’m an OOS too. I applied Novermber 30th so i am not expecting an answer for a while…

Year before last, my OOS son got his acceptance on February 20.
