So I have to submit an appeal letter to UT Austin for application consideration because I had some issues with my permanent resident card. Anybody know the size of the waiting list this year? And how likely is it that everyone on the list will be accepted (Appeals aren't considered until waiting list is considered)?

Has anybody else had to submit an appeal? How did that work and since we won't know about decision until late May, how did this affect all your other decisions? Thank you.

Also, I'm in the top 4% if that makes any difference of their consideration of my appeal...Also, I'm in the top 4% if that makes any difference of their consideration of my appeal...

It only makes a difference if you are a Texas resident at a Texas high school.

I am... will my rank then put me at an advantage of getting my appeal considered?

Oh, this is not fair. You graduated from a Texas high school in the top 4% of your class - and there was documentation of this in your application - and now they are saying they will only consider you if every single person on the wait list is accepted?

Since this is the first year UT has had a wait list, it is hard for us to guess whether the kids on the wait list will get in or not. It is good that the wait list is not very big.

But really, this does not sound right. I thought the top 10% rule was supposed to apply to all graduates of Texas high schools, including international students whose families happen to have been living in Texas during their high school years. (Is this right? What does your guidance counselor think?)

It feels like there should be some way you could put pressure on UT Admissions. Your guidance counselor? A newspaper? A politician? I'm sorry I don't know what you can do.

The law does NOT specify that you must be a Texas resident, so if UT does not admit you than you should contact an attorney as you are guaranteed admission to UT under Texas state law.

The waiting list is new this year but my understanding of it is that very few if any students will be accepted from it, but I don't know how that affects your appeal.

Thanks for the reply. I actually don’t think I have any protection by the law though because as my green card stuff did not go through, I technically did not have a complete application, so they don’t have to accept me… But I received not acceptance or rejection either.

I’m hoping that since UT accepts a huge number of students, hopefully that means that many spots will open up to the waiting list as well since not everyone will decide to go to UT. So if the waiting list isn’t too big, I might have a teeny chance? I’m not counting on it, but I can hope.

…now it seems to me that most people who are appealing have had a change in their stats. Mine are exactly the same but indicate that I deserve to be accepted.

Anyone have any other info on this?
