Hi guys, so I just found out that my school district never sent my transcript in.. I had them send it in today (even though I sent in a request for it to be sent in June..) and then called UCSD admissions. To my surprise, the admissions officer told me that my admissions would be canceled because it was already past the June 15th deadline. I explained that this was really unfair because I had put in my request in June, and there was no way I could have foreseen that my transcript request would be lost, or overseen.. and that July 27th is not that far from July 15th (the deadline) and it would really be unfair for my admissions (which i worked so hard for) to be canceled over something like this, which was not my fault at all. So anyways, the admissions officer told me that I would have to appeal my cancellation. I was wondering if anyone else is in the same boat, and/or has experience in this particular situation. Thanks!

wow, ur school really effed up. well, i dont have any advice for u cuz im not in the same situation, but i think ucsd should understand ur problem. if u can find a way to prove that u did request ur transcript to be sent in to ucsd from your high school, but ur high school didnt send it in, then ucsd might understand.

It really sucks that you’re in this situation. I can definitely see where you’re coming from but I can also see where UCSD is coming from. I submitted my transcript request to my high school on June 11th, and on July 1st, when my transcript still hadn’t been received according to TritonLink, I called my high school to make sure it had been sent (luckily it had been sent and they had the post office receipt to prove it; I had no issues as UCSD confirmed they had it a few days in advance). I know many other students did the same. If I may ask, why didn’t you keep tabs on your transcript? Did you know you could check TritonLink to see if it had been received?

@californiaxo, Yes I knew that I could check TritonLink to see if it had been received, and I checked every day for the last month for that matter. However, I kept in close contact with other students from my high school, and it wasn’t until Jul 24th (three days ago) that their status’ were updated regarding receipt of transcripts for UCSD. This was when I started to panic, because how was it that all of my ucsd bound classmates from my high school had their transcripts received, but not mine? Prior to Jul 24th, I wasn’t quite in panic-mode yet because nobody else had their transcripts received by ucsd either. So anyway, I couldn’t get hold of the transcript office for my school district over the weekend because they were closed, and I tried calling yesterday but nobody picked up. Then today, I called and found out that my transcripts weren’t sent out to UCSD and then promptly arranged for them to be sent out to UCSD. In May, our school passed out forms where we specified which college we wanted our transcripts to be sent to. I clearly remember turning mine in, and this action is verified by two of my friends who were with me at the time. The problem now is, if my admissions were to be canceled, I would need this original piece of documentation as proof that I put in a request for my transcripts to be sent. However, the person who answered my phone call at my school district said that he might not be able to locate this document in a timely matter as they have thousands of transcripts in their office. Basically, this situation is now out of my control and it sucks. I’m angry and sad at the same time because if my admissions really were to be canceled over mis-communication on my schools part, I wouldn’t know what to do. It’s just unbelievable to know that I’ve worked so hard for my admission to have it canceled just like that.

Take what you wrote in that post, clean it up, and send it to every UCSD contact in the admissions office that seems like they could help you. I’m not kidding, a nicely written letter (about a page long) saved my $12,000 scholarship after I turned in finaid papers late (and that was MY fault; this situation is different). Explain everything, from the day you filled out the paperwork at your school to the reason why you weren’t completely panicking (throw in that you realize they’re busy so you knew there would be a delay in the updating of the website and all that) to the day you found out your school never sent it. Finish it with how hard you’ve worked to get to UCSD, how it was your dream to make it in. Make it professional with your name, PID number, address, email, phone number at the top. Address it “To Whom it May Concern:” so that it can be easily forwarded to the right person. Good luck, I hope everything turns out alright!

Thanks for your input california, I wrote them a letter and plan on sending it first thing tomorrow.

i’m kinda in the same situation as you…my school makes us address the envelope ourselves and i didn’t know i had to write attn: transcripts undergraduate admissions on the envelope, so I just wrote ucsd’s address on the envelope.
a couple of days ago, my school called and said that they got my transcript sent back to them because the address was wrong. the address was actually correct, i just didn’t write attn:transcript undergraduate admissions.
so…i called them up and they told me to write a letter explaining my situation and i attached my original transcript envelope that was postmarked june 26th to my letter.
if i get rescinded because of this…oh my god.

@fruitytart
that’s funny because I didn’t write attn: transcripts undergraduate admissions on my envelope, just 3500 gillman drive stuff and my transcript got delivered and processed just fine

The same thing happened to me. My school didn’t send it in. I called ucsd this morning and the lady just told me to overnight the transcript along with proof that the transcript was previously sent, if possible. She didnt mention anything about my admission getting cancelled or anything like that. Anyhow, my school does not keep track of the transcripts it sends and the secretary that I told to send mine in was gone for the summer, so instead, the principals secretary wrote me a brief letter saying that my transcript had been sent in on June 27th. I will give them a call on monday to make sure everything is ok. I don’t really think they will cancel our admission if it wasn’t our fault. Either way, they won’t be done validating transcripts until the end of August. A few late transcripts won’t b the end of the world. Maybe you talked to a grumpy admissions officer?

Chemistrylover, I talked with three different admissions officers. They all said that I would likely get rescinded, even though I sent out a new copy of my transcript + proof that I sent it in already at an earlier date. This proof was comprised of a copy of my original request to my school district for my transcripts to be sent to ucsd, along with the original tracking number and receipt of the envelope containing my transcripts that were sent, certified mail, to UCSD before the deadline. As if that wasn’t enough, I hand wrote a letter explaining my situation. However, even with all my efforts, the admissions officer rudely explained to me that I would likely get rescinded anyway and that I should just save it for my appeal. These admissions officers really need to get their answers straight. I think it’s time they hire new people, because the people there now are grumpy and really don’t give a flying fart about us students.

I really hope we don’t get our admission cancelled. We worked so hard for it. It is really unfair. =( But I like to remain positive and like @californiaxo mentioned, an appeal saved him/her $12,000 even though it was his fault, I’m pretty sure well have some good luck as well. I’m just worried that this will take a long time and we won’t be able to sign up for classes or continue with the whole process.

Oh and I also forgot to add that I emailed the admissions office a couple days before the July 15th deadline and this is what they replied:
We are experiencing a HIGH volume of incoming transcripts and are unable to respond to your request at this time. Please continue to monitor receipt of your transcripts on your checklist at www.myapplication.ucsd.eduhttp://www.myapplication.ucsd.edu. Under the section titled “Transcripts Received”, it will display the names of academic institutions from which we have received transcripts on your behalf and the date it was received. As long as your transcript is postmarked by July 15, it will be processed accordingly. Please continue to monitor your checklist through July 30. We will notify those students whom we have not received transcripts from shortly after the last week of July.

Thank you for your patience.

Because of this email I waited until now to call them. Maybe I should have done it way sooner. Either way, they don’t make it sound as if not receiving your transcript on time would be such a big deal or else they would let us know right away not in August.

yeah dude you guys shouldve called the admissions ppl like around july 1st to check if they recieved your transcripts (i called on july 3rd to see that my ap scores were received but i also asked them to verify that my transcript was received). they said my transcript wasnt received yet, and it wasnt checkmarked on TritonLink. So they told me to verify with my school to see if they sent in the transcript, and if not, then call back on July 8th to inform the admission person. soon enough i saw my transcript shown under TritonLink on july 7th, so everything was fine. so you guys shouldve taken the initiative to make FOR CERTAIN that everything was received, sure i know that you thought it was fine to wait to see if they received your transcript, but make the initiative. hope this helps

btw @stpatricks14: why were you not in panic-mode prior to july 24th? werent the transcripts supposed to be received by july 15th?

I wasn’t really in panic mode because they were still updating atriyonlink on the 26/27th because they were so behind on paperwork. Also, I was following the instructions on the email.

UCSD still has not received mine. Like everyone else, I wasn’t in full panic mode until last week because UCSD was still updating the website up until then. It was only after I called did I start panicking. I thought my school forgot to send it or something like that, but I went to my school and got in contact with someone that worked there (which was hard because my school was closed for the summer) and they told me that they had sent it. My school sends everyones transcripts at once with a mass mailing so they told me they didn’t a receipt or a tracking number or anything. I asked him to send a copy to UCSD at once along with a cover letter explaining the situation.

I’m still unsure what my next step should be.

Could you guys please post what happened with your cases?
Did you appeal? How long did it take?

This is my case and I am REALLY interested in knowing what happened, even if you all do go to UCSD. Thanks for any info.
