Would not taking a language SAT II hinder my application significantly? I can't take it in october bc I have a family function on the date (perfect timing >.>) and I'm retaking SATs in nov for RD.

They suggest you take it, so I'm not sure if not taking it would send a message that you don't care about the school enough...I do care; I just don't have time lol.

is a family function more important than the SAT?

i never took a language sat 2 and i was accepted

its more of a bar mitzvah. its important to my parents, not to me haha.

I really don't think it matters, as long as you already have 2 other SAT II scores.

I actually took the SAT II in French June of my senior year after I had already been accepted to Penn so that I could place out of the foreign language requirement. I didn't study at all, and its only a 1 hr test so its not torturous. I would recommend that you try that if you decide to go to Penn and don't want to take a foreign language..

I took two SAT 2's the morning of a family function, actually. When I was 500 miles from home. And i got 790's on both of them.

Just take it there. Honestly it's not hard at all. But if you don't want to, then just don't take a FL SAT 2. you don't NEED one (though it helps as hell for placement....getting a 650 on spanish is soooo easy and it'll get you outta foreign language for good at penn).

Come on. A family function is always more important than the SAT. Some people really need to get priorities straight.

That said, maybe you can compromise. Remember that the SAT II's are usually shorter than the full SAT, and you might be done with your tests before the services.

Also, be sure to take the test eventually. As Hypababe said, it's the best way to place out of the language requirement at Penn, and you can take the test any time that it's offered. I even had a friend take the test after his freshman year at Penn.

wait, so if i take the test and say score a 700, i wouldnt have to take Spanish in Penn?? woah. It sounds easier than Language AP/IB exam!

yeah... 1 hr multiple choice test is soooooooo much less painful than 4 hr writing, listening, and speaking AP exam

lol at the family function. i think your parents could understand that your college future might be a little more important than Johnny turning 13.
