i've completed 4 of 7 for communications studies with an overall 3.9 gpa. applying to ucla. and REALLY worried bc it's more impacted than bus-econ.

are my chances ruined? or is it a situation where it would be BEST for me to finish but not absolutely necessary???!!! The site didn't stress completion but only suggested I get a majority of them done...

the UCLA representatives I spoke to stressed the extreme importance of completing the pre-req's. One falsely told me that if I don't complete it by spring, I will be less likely to become accepted. But the second rep corrected and told me that getting them done is extremely important to being accepted. I am a philosophy major and that major if faaar from impacted.

But nothing is for sure. I believe that your chances may be lowered.

If your school offers them and you didn't complete them, it will be held against you. You really should have completed the prereqs for UCLA comm.

if you are done with your pre-req by spring you should be fine.
Eventhough, you have high GPA if you are not done with your pre-req done you are screwed. Period.

for UCLA, it has some pretty low admit rates, despite the fact that they have less than 200 majors for comp (to be more exact, 164). They still have a 35% admit rate. Not super low, but 59 people out of 164 that applied is pretty low. The average GPA for admitted students was 3.67. Now, who knows if some of them had a 3.0 or whatnot, but still, I think Comp Sci is still a close call.

Woman.Of.Troy - does your CCC offer the 3 courses you haven't taken? I've done 4 out of 7 also, and it's only because my school doesn't offer the other 3.

Funny, when I spoke to Christy Bliss at UCLA Transfer Day, she didn't make it seem like DO THE PRE-REQS OR DIEEEEE like everyone on this forum is insinuating... shrug

einna- 1 is not offered.
1 i can take spring break, short session.
and another was offered spring but not short term and my schedule simply did not allow for it and I'm already taking 16 units.

I'm just trying to rationalize whether it's 3.3 gpa student with all pre-reqs done way more ahead than me? not trying to be pompous... just honest with myself, lol. wow, I SHOULD not have a applied to such a small amount of schools. In retrospect, I'm more confident about getting into my 1st choice who isn't insane about this stuff. But I wanna have choices too. :( LOL. and I don't want fin aid to mess me up.

I see, that'd be ridiculous, definately. & then the little kicker that no one at admissions would care about anyway was that it was only brought to my attention fall 07 that there were 7 pre-reqs I had to do. I guess my com college was more concerned about making me an occupational student and graduating from there thus taking a couple useless courses (no way!) than telling me what I need to accomplish my goals. I'm a bit upset right now... anyway.

I'm in a similar boat. Don't stress. What's done is done.

A great part about your situation is that UCLA isn't your first choice.

The best part about your situation is that you stated your odds are better for your first choice.

Worst case scenario? You settle for another school.....or coast for another year....while you spread out 3 pre-reqs over 2 semesters and reapply and waltz up Jans steps.

^^^ Couldn't have said it better myself. So what if you don't get in? You've done your best and there's nothing you can do now except to wait for the decision. Think positively!

OMG. I just realized an absolutely hideous mistake. This thing UCLA Undergrad Admissions: Transfer Major Prep - Communication Studies
says 7 pre-reqs overall , but I only have to selct 3 from the 2nd set! So that means if I take polis sci this spring break I'll only have 2 pre-reqs missing... 1 which no one within a 30 mile radius offers, and linguistics which I simply cannot take. So chances are better.... ? Only 1 real pre-requisite that was "available", linguistics missing, this is seriously the best I can do.

AND thank you all for ((trying)) to make me feel better. I actually have another school as my first choice but then again, I only applied to 2 so that was less then wise, let me tell you. And they're pretty close so I was just getting used to the idea of maybe being a Bruin. I hope it happens. yeah. options are good.

I obviously need to stop being obsessive, but venting helps. =P
