Importance of SAT Subject Tests?

I applied to the schools I care most about without having to take any SAT subject tests, and Stanford doesn't require them, but I was wondering how important they are for an application. My normal SAT's are decent (800 CR, 740 W, 610 M, not taking math in college).

Other information
My essay is excellent and explains my rather harsh life story
I'm a full IB Diploma student, and my GPA sucks (3.43)
My grades have been tanking because my family is getting torn to pieces over a divorce, which I also explain in the application (not related to my harsh circumstances growing up)

My Stanford application is just a shoot-for-the-stars for the sake of trying kind of thing. I might not go even if I /am/ accepted, on account of how expensive it is (and because I might get into the UW honors program, which is on par with Stanford and much cheaper).

But anyways, does anyone know how much does not submitting the subject tests will hurt me?

oh yeah, my first SAT test results were 650-620-620, which is terrible, but it demonstrates lots of improvement
