SAT Subject Test and What Matters to You Essay

Hi Everyone,

I took the ACT (35), so Stanford does not require (but highly recommends) Subject Tests. I got an 800 on Math 2 but I did not do so well on Chem (730) or Bio (730). Should I still submit them because Stanford recommends atleast 2? Or should I just submit my math score.

Also I wrote two essays for the “What Matters to You and Why?” prompt. One is about my eyes and one is about tennis. I heard that Stanford loves athletes so should I submit my tennis one? Both show something different about me that adds to my application.

Thanks so much!

I would send the scores. Your 35 speaks highly of your academics and they recommend 2. 730 are still very high scores. Which one of the essays do you like better? They really want to get to know the reall you so which one do you think says more about you. Do you have anything about your eyes or tennis elsewhere. If yes, choose the other.

Yes, send two subject tests. In % terms the 730 in biology is a bit higher than the chemistry, according to 2015 data from the College Board, so maybe that’s preferable. However, they are both good scores.

I agree with @bwaygirl1 on both counts.

Thanks everyone!!

I know this is a little late, but if you decide to only send math - make sure your counselor does not send the other scores as part of your transcript. Happened to one of my children - child was sick on test day and got progressively worse as the morning went on. Student asked counselor to remove scores from transcript which they did for certain college submissions but not all and not for scholarship applications. You scores all seem fine but it should be your choice.

@collegec123 Thank you so much for this info! I ended up reporting all my subject tests to Stanford, but this is helpful information for my other colleges.
