I was wondering how important SATs are when applying for transfer. I was told when I was taking the SATs that they're supposed to show how well you will do in college; and I believe mine did a fairly bad portrayal of that. I got mediocre SATS (sub 1400) and currently have the highest GPA I could possibly be getting, on the other hand I see kids who tell me they had gotten 1500+ and now have a lower GPA....

My main question is: if I have a "stellar" GPA, do my SATs matter? And if they do, should I think about retaking them if I were very serious in tranferring?

If you are very serious about transferring you might as well go all the way for the peace of mind. On the other side it might a lot of work for you to do better because if you could you probably would have - I am the same way with my SAT. I also once like you tried to regain confidence through the board. The problem is that there is no definitive answer. I you have a 4.0 and recommendations saying that you are the best, then you've probably proven yourself in a way that SAT can't prove you and you would make it. On the other hand if there are others who match your gpa but have higher scores they will probably be at advantage. Also any flaw of you essays might bring to mind your sat scores and the amissions people might be picky. The SAT, however, is a high school thing. Moreover, transfer's are not part of the statistics reported, which makes schools a little more flexible.
I don't know what the answer is, and that is why I am taking the ACT.

That's right. I had 1410 on SAT quite awhile ago. 630V+780M, and as I said reading bemuses me. I get them right but on each section I have like 3-4 reading questions left after the time is over with. Poeople who know me believe that I have ADD, so I'll se what the doctor can do. In the middle of the text I just drift away.... For some reason the ACT lacks complexity and even distracted I get them better. So yup.

the other nice thing about it is that taking it february is permissible when transferring for the fall. that is when I am taking it. you should check it out. it's really easy and there is a science section so if you are good with that it's a big plus. plus all the kids here are taking it, since it's the midwest, so i have an excuse. also, my sat I won'tbe reported with my sat IIs because i took it more than 5 years ago.
