I was wondering about the importance SAT subject tests for admission to Reed. I read somewhere that they were recommended but not required but I don’t recall where. If they are indeed recommended, how many do they prefer you to take? Any specific subjects? Will they view AP exam scores as some form of supplement? Any info is appreciated, as my google searches haven’t been turning up any explicit answers.
I was accepted without sending subject test scores. However, I only sent my ACT scores. It would be a good idea to send subject test scores with the SAT or if you did well on them, but for me, it wasn’t necessary for acceptance. I also self reported AP scores on my application, but I’m not sure if that really affected anything.
I was accepted for the class of 2020. I didn’t send any subject tests – only the SAT, and I didn’t send AP tests either. So, yeah, they’re not required. They might help your chances if you did well on them. I, personally, took two subject tests, but that was because I applied to a lot of other schools that required them. I would recommend you take 2-3 subject tests just in case you’d like to send them anyway or if you’re applying to a school like Columbia or Duke that requires them.
