Important Admission Decision! (Please ReaD)

I was recently accepted to UC Berkeley as a Bio major (College of Letter and Science) and Brown as a Chem major. The question is, based on the department I applied, which school is better? Where should I go?

I can’t answer your specific question (comparing chem/bio departments at UCB and Brown), but I just want to clarify some language here. Brown did not accept you as a chem major. Once you get to campus, you can decide to concentrate in biology, geology, Classics, or literary arts. Whatever you want.

I do know that research opportunities for chem and bio majors are excellent at Brown.

It shouldn’t matter. You don’t officially declare your major until end of freshman/sophomore year, so you can always change. (unless you were accepted into an impacted major like engineering, which you were not)

I’d personally go with Brown bc of the smaller class sizes + better financial aid + fundin being a private school

@ light up the sky
what do you mean by “impacted major”?

I just want to know, which school has a better science program that can lead me to a better graduate school?

What about things like social scene/research opportunies/undergraduate focus/campus?

I wouldn’t say the difference is huge, and not many people can give you a direct comparison.

I would say that what graduate school you are accepted to will depend more on what you do at college – how you take advantage of the opportunities – than whether you go to Brown or UCB. And chances are good that what you think you want to do in four years is very different from what you will actually be doing in four years.
