For those of you who want to get above 600 on any category…
%Smart Practice is the key… Don’t just do SAT questions with NO PURPOSE AT ALL. Come back and analyze your errors and write them down somewhere and review them periodically.
%Do around 30 practice test and a 600 is almost a garrentee. If that is, you follow the SMART method… thats all there is… really…

P.S. Dont’ forget to memorize around 1000 vocab and WRITE DAILY!!!

/… and what about 700/750 + ?

I disagree with memorizing a ton of vocab. I think that the best thing to do for the CR sentence completions is to just learn strategies for picking the correct answer and to learn the vocabulary used on the old SAT tests from the Blue Book. I also played devil’s advocate a lot on the CR reading comprehension and kept my personal biases out of the test. There are many good strategies on CC but I find that the best strategy for a person is his or her own personal strategy that he or she develops after practice with the SAT. This helped me get an 800 CR. I started from a 60 CR on my sophomore 2009-2010 PSAT.

For Writing, I just practiced the tests and learned the grammar rules that I got wrong. A grammar guide is certainly helpful, like that of Silverturtle, but practice with actual SAT W sections is needed as well. I practiced and I ended up with a 760 on Writing overall (75 MC and 10 E).

For the essay, I recommend practicing writing the SAT essay as often as possible. Using 2-3 examples and being direct are needed. I like to start with my thesis and examples in the introduction and then tie in my examples in the topic sentences to my thesis. I don’t give too much background on my examples but I do show how they support my thesis. In the conclusion, I recommend tying in your examples to the thesis and end with a sentence to stimulate the brain.

For writing, just learn grammar rules.

Writing is probably the easiest section to improve on, because all you’re doing is applying rules. Math, which is reliant on a person’s ingenuity, and CR, which is about absorbing and understanding information, are much more difficult to learn.
