I am going to apply regular to HPYS etc. I have made a version, and have sent the recommendation letters to my teachers etc. However, I cannot customize my essays, because I cannot create more versions since I have already given the forms to my teachers for that one version only. (I helps if you customize your essays.)

Should I leave the essay part blank, and send some essays in separately.

OR

Should I mail in the application. Also, is it ok if I mail in an application even after I have given the recs to my teachers that go with the online application

I'm not sure I understand what you are saying... Why don't you fill out the common app, and (if applying for Harvard), upload your Harvard essay and put ONLY Harvard on the list of schools to send to? Then, after you have done that, remove Harvard from the list and put on Princeton, rinse and repeat.

I'm not sure you can submit the common app online without uploading something... Maybe just upload a document that says "essays will arrive by mail"?

OK, I think it know what the OP is concerned about. Back at the beginning of this process - the CA was not going to allow changes. Everyone printed out their teachers' forms, which included a number that is supposed to be on all forms. Now the CA is allowing people to make separate copies, but if you do that, there will be a new account number.

Some people seem to be assuming that in this case the adcoms will not possibly be able to match up the teacher recs with the appropriate apps. They seem to think that the adcoms are either pretty useless, or way too focused on petty bureaucratic procedures. I think the adcoms are pretty competent people who actually want to make the system work.

Add to that: If you printed up your teacher rec reports and secondary school reports BEFORE you even entered your first school on the list, there are no numbers on them AT ALL.....Again, I'm sure the adcoms can figure it out..........

I called one top school and they said this would not be a major problem. They also said they double check for name and birthdate. They also mentioned after you log into their website for checking application status, if the letter of recomemdation is still missing you can ask your teacher to resubmit. He can replace the old id with the new id and mail another copy.
