haha. If only I'd found this about a week ago... sigh I lost...

hey guys!!
i found out today at school that I'm the new secretary/treasurer
i got 55% of the votes and i was running against 2 other people.
HAha

Congratulations!

bumped for katia

im running for junior v.p. of nhs and tommorow we are supposed to give a short speech on why we want to be it and why they should vote for us etc. at the meeting...i dont want to make a list of all my academic/community achievements to date because i dont think it would go over very well..any tips? i have no idea how to start it

Oh, you bumped this for me? Thank you!

I'm running for president of my class, not student body, so I only have like 110 people to deal with (all girls), but the elections are on friday, we just had sign-ups yesterday and today is wednesday. And there are seriously like six people running for president(though 1st runner-up is vice).

I've been talking to my friends and asking for poster help, and even though you guys said "not to post your resume" (which I agree with- one freshman was bragging about her going to some leadership conference, those ones that are like $5,000 for two days, and she lost), but I did mention that I am involved in the school, was Decorating chair for Sophomore Date Dance (which is a big deal at our school and was easily one of the best dances ever), and a Leader-in-Training at camp last year.

Any suggestions would be great either here or on my thread

I've lost a lot of elections in elementary school, a couple in high school, but I finally won VP for the Italian Club (which is not a big deal at all- it meets like 5 times a year), but nonetheless, I am feeling super confident. I'm just worried. . .

Are dorky posters ok? I think they're kind of funny. . .
If I show pictures of me playing my guitar(Rock the Vote!) and trumpet(She'll blow you away!) and that kind of stuff, will people thinking I'm bragging about my many "interests" (since I wouldn't say my trumpeting is exactly a "talent" :))

One last problem- at my school, class officers don't make speeches, so I don't really have a chance to say my views to everyone at once. Basically I will have to rely on talking to people, word-of-mouth, and LOTS of posters. Any suggestions on getting by without speeches? I guess I'm lucky that there really aren't many people in my class, so I can probably at least talk to maybe 70 or 80 if I am lucky.

Sorry this post is so long. Just thought I would let you know how things are at my school so you can better understand my particular situation, since some of the other posters are different.

Thank you!

yesterday, the entire STUCO got together for a pizza party and watched a short part of this film (i don't rememberthe title) but anyways..

the part we watched was about three kids who were running for class president. The last kid to give the speech was like
"every year, people make promises to make our school better but honestly has anyone done that? Has a president every made a difference, made you smarter?
"The only person who is actually affected by being elected is the president, who just wants to put it in their college transcript. So elect me, because I don't plan on going to college. If you elect me, I will get rid of the stupid student council so we won't ever have to sit through these speeches again." after her speech, the whole class stood up and cheered. it was hilarious. haha
