I am currently in the GW school of business as a freshman and want to transfer. I got a 3.47 the first semester (econ b+, psych b+, University writing A, Hebrew 3 b+, Finite Math B+, seminar pass/fail pass). College democrats, multi cultural student union, AIPAC cadre member, more clubs and ec's.....African American. High school : 4.9/6.0, school's #1 scholar-athlete, mvp in 2 varsity sports, 2 time captain in both....lots of club law club etc...political volunteer work, a lot of other volunteer...very active...act 27. Want to transfer to UNC or duke. Still have a semester here at Gdub and need advice about taking requirements. Should i take them? Do i have good enough chances that would allow me not to take them?
any help would be great.

took 5 ap's in high school

Um...my mouth dropped at your HS gpa..wow. nice work. Your college grades are slightly low in my opinion for Duke..but I think you might have a chance for UNC. ..you a North Carolina fan or something? :P

yea i love the people and the area there. thank you...anymore suggestions?

Well his HS must have been on a different GPA scale than most, because I'm pretty sure that its impossible to get a 4.9 unweighted on a 4.0 scale. Don't get too excited just yet.

Could you clarify your question about taking requirements? Do you know what your major will be? Do you expect athletics to be a factor assisting your admission - do you play a sport where they might want you at UNC or Duke?

I play water polo, they are only club sports at UNC and DUKE. I was wondering if i should continue taking requirements for the business school that i am in now, or should i have a decent enough chance at UNC to take other courses?

4.9/6.0...it's not that good...it's lower than the average...comes out to be low 80..

Okay, re taking requirements: if it's not a moot point (aren't you already into spring term and have chosen your classes for the term?), I would want to know more before advising you.

Are you planning a business major whether you stay at GW or transfer? Are the requirements substantially different at Duke/UNC from the ones at GW? What would you take at GW instead of the required courses? If you don't get accepted to Duke/UNC, will you mind/be able to catch up on the requirements at GW next year?
