Important! You must submit your scholarship app - even for an assured scholarship

I know that it is confusing because some other schools automatically consider their applicants for scholarships.

however, Bama does require students to submit a separate scholarship app, even if the scholarship is assured for stats.

Yes, it may seem like a formality, but it is req’d.

Deadline is Dec 1st.

BTW…the College of Education has their own scholarship form (I think). College of Nursing may as well, so check.

Also…the same goes for the Honors College. Yes, it admits by stats, but you still have to submit the Honors College app.

Do you need to be admitted first before you can submit your scholarship application?

Good question.

NO…do not wait until you are admitted to submit the scholarship app!!!

About 1-3 business days after you submit your online app, you’ll get an email that tells you how to set up your MyBama acct. After doing that, you can submit your scholarship app online.

If you don’t get such an email, contact the school and contact your area representative. http://gobama.ua.edu/staff/</a></p>

If you have further questions about scholarships, send an email to Lindsay Hutcherson

A question about Alabama. Since Alabama is roughly 20k a year in tuition and 11k a year in housing, I would qualify for an automatic scholarship (I got over a 32 on my ACT and I have more than a 3.5 GPA) for test scores and I also heard that if I go into engineering with over a 32, I get $2,500 a year for engineering. Does that really bring my yearly cost down to around 8k a year?

Also, if it does, are there any other scholarships I can apply to so that it’s a full ride?

Bumping this

You are correct that you would receive a scholarship that covers the cost of tuition and would receive an additional $2,500 per year for choosing a major in the College of Engineering. When you factor in costs such as textbooks, course fees (roughly $350 per semester), transportation, personal expenses, etc., your cost will be more than $8,000, but just counting tuition, housing in one of the super suite dorms, and a meal plan, your annual cost would be $8,044 at this year’s rates.

Alright, thanks!

I guess I’ll apply because it never hurts to have a college that would be cheaper to attend than a community college. Plus, with a work study and a summer job, I could probably scrimmage up 8k a year so I get out debt free without having to ask a cent from my parents.

Oh, and are there any other scholarships?

^^^

Are you asking if there are other scholarships for engineering students? I don’t know of any other scholarships for incoming engineering freshmen.

However, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t other opportunities for getting more money. My kids work as university tutors and they’ve also earned money by taking advantage of other opportunities that their depts have offered.

Don’t forget, that you can bring the costs down if you choose NOT to have “super suite housing”. Just something to consider, some students prefer traditional dorm settings and it is cheaper.

@mom2collegekids

As in other merit-based ones of any kind offered by Alabama.

@robotbldmom:

I assumed that the dorms that Alabama quoted as 11-ish thousand a year were the low-end dorms and not the “super suite housing”. Is that not the case?

The $11k-ish UA quotes for room and board is based on a student having their own bedroom in a 4-bedroom super suite and having a meal plan good for 160 meals per semester (the minimum meal plan for freshmen). Less deluxe accommodations will cost less http://housing.ua.edu/pdfs/2010-2011_Residence_Hall_Rates_Final.pdf</a> . Note that the rates quoted on this document are per semester and do not include food.

Alright, so this:

[Quick Facts: Cost of Attending - The University of Alabama](<a href=“Page Not Found | The University of Alabama”>Page Not Found | The University of Alabama)

The $3,475.00 per semester stands for a 4 bedroom supersuite?

Alright, looks like it’ll be even cheaper.

Rocky…

The cost for a Super Suite dorm is **$3750 per semester./B

And, as Sea_Tide says, the $11k figure includes the cost of Silver meal plan (and maybe includes the Dining Dollars).

Keep in mind that only freshmen have to have (at least) that meal plan. Once you’re a soph, you can opt for a much cheaper meal plan (or no meal plan).

Merit-based other offers…While at Bama there are other scholarship opportunities - but they are through your major department. There are also depts that hire students to help in labs and such.

Okay, thanks!
