So I've been accepted to bama and I've received the automatic scholarship for 2/3 tuition plus 1/3 and $2,500 because I'm doing engineering, but I'm wondering if I need to fill out the "Application for Scholarships" on the mybama website or not.

I don't know if I need to fill it out in order to receive my automatic scholarships or if it will give me additional money.

I'm confused and any clarification would help. Thanks!

Bama offered you full tuition (about $25k per year) plus $2500 per year - so at least $110k per year.

Is this what Auburn offered?
Requires a 31-32 ACT or 1360-1430 SAT score and a minimum 3.5 high school GPA for consideration. Awarded at $48,000 over four years ($12,000 per year).

If so, the above offer is less than half of Bama’s offer.

What is your net cost annually at each of these schools? With what you got, it sounds like Tennessee instate could be about the same cost as Alabama with the scholarship. Auburn is more costly.

Yeah true, and I actually just realized the hope scholarship for Tennessee is actually $2k per semester so it’s really 4k per year but even with that Alabama it seems still has the lowest net cost.

You need to discuss the finances with your family. It could be that all of these colleges are affordable, and they are able to pay whatever isn’t covered by your scholarships. This is a family decision.

??
that Auburn amount isn’t right. Where did you get that number and what does it include???

Auburn
Tuition and fees $27,384
Room and board $12,178
Books and supplies $1,200
Estimated personal expenses $2,728
Transportation expenses $2,858
Estimated Total $46,348

Just tuition, fees, room, board and books are over $40k

What are your parents saying? how much will they pay each year?

Well it can be hard to decide when you haven’t visited. Tenn isn’t that far away. When can you visit?

If I’m not mistaken (I don’t know the exact amount for each
schools, especially grants, scholarships, special programs…!)
39,986- 27,500 = 12,486
28,970 - (4,000 + 6,000) = 18,970
34,574 - 12,000 = 22,574
Does that look right?
If that’s correct, then UAlabama’s the best deal for you, by far, especially since you get to be in a great Honors College.

^^^And, that Auburn starting cost amount is significantly off. It is several thousand higher. I don’t know where the OP got that lowish figure from.

The student needs to set up an Alabama campus tour and contact the honors college to set up the rest of the day. He needs to check with his parents as to what would be a good day.

^uh, I just realized that my question could sound like “are you able to make a calculation?” when I meant, “since you have the actual numbers, would you be kind enough to write the substraction on this thread, because I can do something with rough numbers but it may not be the right result”. Argh. I hate it when I write something that, in my head, is polite, and it turns potentially rude once online. :s

Did you get the invite yet for Capstone Scholars Day 17 Jan? My son is attending and also offered generous merit aid/scholarships, but I still made him fill out the separate scholarship app. It’s very simple and peace of mind.
