Improve SAT score by 400 points?

My baseline sat score is 1830 (barely studied) and I was hoping to get at least 2200 by the October SAT (about 3 months from now). Although I would really like a 2300, but I don't think that is very realistic for now, but it would be nice :). I know that it's easier to improve by so many points if the baseline score is lower, but I'm not sure about mine's. It's just that critical reading pretty much screws me over and that it's hard for me to come up with relevant examples for the essay. So would it be possible /how likely is it to raise my score by about 400 points by that time considering my baseline score? Is there a special way to do this?

I am currently taking a SAT prep class, and I guess it is KIND of helping, nothing revolutionary though. I am also doing some self-studying using the Blue Book. What other books would help aid me, along with that one? I thought that Barron's critical reading practice passages were pretty easy compared to those in the BB, and that the math problems are harder. I'm not sure which books to use because I always run out of problems in the BB.

Thanks!

What is your breakdown?
The Grammatix guide is pretty good, a PDF can be found online pretty easily.
Target the spots where you want to improve and the questions you often get wrong and work specifically on those.
For CR, read a lot of challenging books (collegeboard has a good list of 101 classics) and newspapers. Learn vocab, but don’t go crazy with a 3000+ word list. I’ve heard direct hits is quite good, I’m using something similar and am happy with my results.
I hope this helps, but there are hundreds of CC threads with more detailed information.

2400 in 7 steps is a good book. I’m self-studying with the book now. I’m focusing on critical reading only for now. I want to improve for about 200 as well in October. (I originally scored about 2000.) Ask for further Qs if you have!
