In a really weird transfer situation and need advice

I’m at UCSD right now as a freshman, from Mass originally. My dad got sick and we ran out of money and I can’t afford here anymore. I got so stressed that my grades sunk and my GPA is like 2.6 or so.

Will that kill me? My SAT is a 2050 and essays and everything else are all good, but god that GPA is bad. If I don’t get in everything sorta will crumble and I’m so nervous. Ugh. Thanks.

To clarifying, I’m trying to transfer from UCSD to UMass. I’ve heard stories of people going to better colleges and transferring back (like my situation), is that stuff fake or am I okayish? Thanks.

You’re a little bit lower than the UMass transfer GPA

Yeah I know, so what I was asking was whether going to a more selective school and having a great SAT score make up for that in terms of transferring.

@uxo59 Your circumstances given your father’s illness might make a case for your lower gpa. Did you explain this in your application? If you didn’t and you haven’t heard yet, I would get in touch with admissions asap to explain your situation.

You have a reasonable explanation for both your low GPA & for wanting/needing to transfer. You should be accepted as a transfer student. Best wishes for you & your Dad !

UMass does holistic admissions. You should call admissions and speak with them frankly about your situation. I did, and I followed their advice, and everything worked out fine (and my situation was much stickier/more complicated than yours). Don’t get discouraged and give up because you’ve had some hard luck.

I agree with @nouveaufriske, definitely call them and ask. Also, if UMass Amherst doesn’t work out, then I would try UMass Lowell next.
