In case you missed the announcement ...

@thumper1:
The purpose is more creativity/individuality. The poster you’re referring was probably looking for a good avi to use for a while (or he could be a ■■■■■).

Personally I wouldn’t want a limit on avi. I mean you see the same name so it shouldn’t matter too much. Especially when you can see past avi (I think a feature that should be nerfed too much history especially when you use your own pic).

Avatars add a personal touch to each member who chooses to have one. It’s a form of self-expression. Is that the reason CC chose to have avatars? I don’t know, but it’s no use to complain about what other people are doing on their profile. You can’t control so why let it bother you?

On other forums, avatars change just like the weather. There are still names present with the avatars. It would be helpful for the names to be enlarged.

I noticed that someone changed their username (kept the same avatar) since the conversion. Does anyone know how to do that?

When I visit the College or High School forum, I try not to be snarky because I know I am just a visitor.

That’s nice to know, oldfort.

Niqull - did you think I was talking about you. ;

Interesting, snl, as I thought having multiple accounts was against the TOS

I like being able to change avatars. I have some Olympic-performing guinea pigs on deck for my avatar on February 8! But… old avatars SHOULD disappear (especially for those students who posted actual pictures of themselves, then realized it wasn’t such a great idea).

Agree about the placement of the emoticon symbol. I can’t read the letter behind it when I am typing or see corrections in that spot.

Romani…I don’t think the person has multiple accounts. They changed their screenname. Apparently one can do that by asking asking a moderator. I know someone who did so.

Oh interesting. Does that wipe out their posting history, too? I’ve noticed a lot of “new” posters lately that are awfully familiar with ccers and the forum.

Seems to me about 1/4 of posters have left the cc logo up, another quarter have their pet, one quarter have sunrise/sunset or scenery shots (woods, snow, rainbows, etc) and the final quarter are a menagerie of photos, emoticons, references to their screnname (since its written in micetype) etc. Agree that the benefit of an avatar is to “recognize” the poster, and if it changes wit the wind, well, its silly. Thats my opinion - my form of self expression, if you will. I don’t care to be skewered for it, thank you very much.

** forgot to close a parenthesis

SnLmom-
Are you sure someone changes their screenname? Thats pretty rarely allowed. Is it possible that there are 2 posters with the same or almost the same, avatars? Thre were a few posters with backyard snow scenes who swore they were in each other’s back yards, and several of us with sunset scenes can be easily confused. I had a helicopter parent avatar, which I thought was kinda cute/funny, but I decided that someone might make some snarky crack about it,so I changed it.

** wonder if there is an avatar for a giant typo??

romani - The screen name change did not wipe out posting history. All former posts now appear to be posted by the new screen name.

Is this a new poster? An old timer? Any reason to be clandestine?

Or is it you??
I recall seeing the running shelties, but now don’t recall who posted them

No, not me. lol Long time poster. Purely speculation, but my best guess is that the new ease of Face Book linking produced fear of loss of confidentiality / potential ID due to former screen name.

Wonder if that explains why I haven’t noticed one formerly prolific poster.
I do like the stable avatars, but don’t mind when someone changes, when it’s personal pix. It feels like the poster is giving us various glimpses.

Oops. I have too many windows open and posted the comment on the wrong thread. Thanks. Thumper!

I think you’re in the wrong thread, Krlilies

Thanks for the explanation, SnL.

Honestly I don’t know why people care about who posted what and if they’re new. What matter is what they post and how it relate to the topic being discussed.
