This is the 4th quarter, and I may finish having a D or even an F in a class, its not one of my stem classes like Calc BC but English. I have an A in every single other class. Am I good?
Depends on the college and is the D or F the final grade in the class or the quarter grade?
For Cornell, you are very likely to be rescinded for a D or F - Contact them asap.
@Fluorine
Thats just the quarter grade I have A’s all other quarters, and its the college of engineering
Yikes! I’m not sure they see quarters. Just final transcripts. Ask your GC if quarters are on that.
And how did this happen???
@HRSMom Basically I refused to present something to the class that was extremely personal and half the grade is presentation, and my teacher refuses to give me some other option to make up for it
Well…if you get rescinded, you can ask yourself whether that was worth it…
Perhaps you could be proactive? Call them and get confirmation one way or the other?
Check w your GC. I think if your final grade is a B or B-, a quarter grade won’t matter.
@bodangles I’ll call once I get my official 4th quarter report to see if it’s that bad. I think my school only sends final averages so then my final average would still be an 89, which is fine. But I’m just a little nervous if my school actually does send quarter averages and they see a 60 or something like that
@HRSMom I definitely will tomorrow
I am sorry to be that parent, but if this is genuinely the case I strongly recommend a meeting with your parents and the guidance counselor, if not the principal or department head at your HS.
I can’t imagine a HS teacher would put your future at risk over this. Sometimes you have to be the squeaky wheel.
If you do this, at a minimum you will have all that documented for Cornell admissions to explain, and I also cannot image they would rescind you if they understood the facts.
Most schools send only final grades. If you have A’s in all your other quarters then your fine, stop worrying.
Update: Fluorine is right. My GC said final grades only but thanks everyone
I agree with Postmodern. You certainly should document this situation. If you get a horrible grade because of this situation, then you would have a better argument this was beyond your control – not an academic issue.
Hey, if you do end up getting rescinded, you can actually get away with it possibly by writing a letter to Cornell, your principal, and the teacher. This is what this kid a couple of years back did (who got into Yale) from my school. In senior year, this crazy physics teacher failed him, and he got his app rescinded until he wrote that letter, which clearly elucidating the entire situation.
People go to great lengths to get it done. But generally, the best way to make sure it doesn’t happen is just do what you need to do to pass… Be the student you were before you were admitted to Cornell’s CoE - a hardworking, intelligent student.
