Established Tex. residency, but not at a Tex. HS, so not eligible for top 10 rule.

If I apply to TAMU would I still be able to get merit aid? Do I need to apply for merit aid? And what kind of stats would I need if I wanted 10-15k merit aid? (do they give out that much?).

I can be more specific with stats, etc. if needed, but for now I just want to figure out if I should apply to TAMU because the only way I'd want to go is if I get merit aid or FA (can I get FA if I'm not a permanent resident or citizen but have established residency?).

Please let me know!

And when should I apply to TAMU? Is mid-Nov. too late?

Since no one has answered I’ll give it a shot (I am not an expert - just a mom). The only kids I am aware of who got that kind of merit money at A&M were National Merit SemiFinalists. I believe they got around half of their tuition/roomAndBoard so that would be around $10k.

This is just info from a friend whose son was a NMSF, so just one anecdotal point. My son was 99 percentile ACT with just under 2000 SAT, but since he wasn’t in top10% he got no merit money.

We ARE told that merit money is much easier to get after freshman year. He plans to apply for departmental money for next year and whatever else is available merit-wise.

"And when should I apply to TAMU? Is mid-Nov. too late? "

If you are an academic-admit (which I have to think you are since you are hoping for merit money) you can probably apply mid-Nov and be fine.

if you are a review admit, it is best to apply as early as possible.
