In-state tuition after second year? (OOS Applicant)

Not sure if this is in the right section, sorry. But anyway I'm currently a junior from Pennsylvania and I really want to go to college on the west coast. UCSD seems a good fit for me, but the nearly $35k price tag on tuition alone does not. I figured that after freshman year I could rent an apartment off campus and make that my primary address, live there for a year, and then be eligible for in-state tuition. Would this work?

If not, I'm not going to bother applying because spending upwards of $50k/year for an undergraduate degree isn't an option.

No, others have asked and this will not work.

@TomSrOfBoston‌ thank you! guess i’ll be sticking with the east coast

<a href=“Criteria to Establish Residence for Tuition Purposes”>https://students.ucsd.edu/finances/fees/residence/criteria.html</a></p>

Only works if you’re financially independent.

As others have said, your plan will not work. If you are set on west coast schools and especially on San Diego, you might look at University of San Diego or other privates. While their tuition is higher at first glance, they offer some great scholarships which can bring the cost way down- even lower than in-state tuition at a public U. Just food for thought…
