In-Staters: Did you apply to any other in-state schools?

DS applied to UNC Asheville, Appalachian State, and Western Carolina, as well as to Chapel Hill. Already accepted at Asheville and WCU; will hear from AppState next week. I think he'd be happy at any of them, really. "Who gives the most merit aid" will play a key role in his final decision. :)

He has applied to a few privates and to Univ of Alabama as well.

Where else did y'all apply? Would you be happy at any of your other choices? If so, which ones?

This should keep us busy for awhile, LOL....

Diane

P.S. OOS applicants also welcome to participate, of course!!

So far, I’ve applied only to UNC.

If I am deferred, I’m planning to apply to NC State and possibly another school. Let’s just hope I won’t have to do that !

For public in-state schools, I applied to UNC, ECU (accepted), and NC State (accepted). I also applied to Duke (still waiting). OOS I applied to Florida State (accepted), Drexel (accepted), Purdue (accepted), Cornell (still waiting), and the University of Miami (still waiting, should find out soon).

My son is in state.

The list:

Alabama - accepted (NMSF scholarship, woo hoo)
Auburn - accepted (NMSF scholarship, woo hoo)
Elon - accepted (already declined, little merit aid)
Georgia Tech - accepted (did not get invited for scholarship so likely won’t attend)
MIT - deferred EA (his dream school I’d love to see him get in)
NC State - Accepted (waiting to hear about scholarship offers)
UNC-CH - We’ll know tomorrow (will hear tomorrow about next phase of scholarship)
UNC-Greensboro - accepted (safety)

oh I forgot to answer the questions. haha. Actually UNC is not one of my top choice because they don’t offer my major. My rank as of right now (it changes a lot) is:

Duke
2-3. Tie between University of Miami and Cornell

Florida State

Purdue

NC State

ECU (becasue they actually have my major, and I think it is actually a nice school)

UNC Chapel Hill

Drexel (have pretty much ruled it out)

UNC is a nice school though, and I think I would be happy at any of these (minus Drexel). Praying for Duke, but it is a long shot.

Just Duke right now, but I have absolutely no interest in attending it. While a beautiful campus, it sits in a very ugly area, and the campus vibe especially does not sit well with me.
UNC is my top choice.

im out of state, but what the hell ill throw mine in there haha…

my tops are ohio state (accepted), univ of maryland-college park, univ of colorado @ boulder (accepted w scholarship), and univ of south carolina (accepted), univ of wisconsin-madison (accepted)

the rest are unc, u florida, clemson, univ of michigan (accepted), michigan state university (accepted)

from maryland…really like the big school feel…spend a lot of time in college park (where umcp is located) and love the big school atmosphere so i obviously ran w it…not oppsed to going far away (but a little scared by it)

I applied to Elon and UNC Asheville and was accepted at both. But they are both safety schools; I really, really don’t want to go to UNCA, and I don’t really want to go to Elon either. But I’m very confident I’ll get into Chapel Hill.

OOS, I applied to Mary Baldwin College (accepted…only applied because it was free, no essay, and a 5 day decision. I wanted another acceptance letter  ). Obviously not going there. I also applied to Tufts, which theoretically is my dream school, but it’s really cold up north and also very expensive and far away from my family. So UNC it is. :D

I’m in-state.

NC Schools:
-UNC-CH (waiting)
-Duke (waiting, this is probably my #1)

Out of State Schools:
-Harvard (waiting)
-Yale (waiting)
-Princeton (waiting)
-Stanford (waiting)
-University of Alabama (accepted, full ride scholarship)

in state.

no other NC schools. top choice is Vanderbilt. UNC is second choice.

In state:
UNC - most definitely my first choice!
UNCW (accepted)
Appalachian (accepted)
ECU (accepted)

OOS:
Ole Miss (accepted)

Was accepted to all of these schools last year - I’m currently taking a gap year. I deferred from UNCW, so theoretically that’s where I’ll go if I don’t get into UNC, but I reapplied to App for this year as well.
What do you guys think about App vs UNCW if it comes down to that? In terms of prestige?

“What do you guys think about App vs UNCW if it comes down to that? In terms of prestige?”

I wonder the same thing! Both are rising in reputation, from what I’ve heard.

I think it partly comes down to whether you’re a beach person or a mountain person. DS is definitely a mountain person!

UNC is the only NC school I applied to (in-state) though if I get in, good chance I’ll be forced, er I mean, strongly encouraged to go there. It’s an amazing school, but I just don’t think it’s for me. I’m hoping to head up North!

NC instater here. I applied to App, Elon, and UNC in state and that’s it for NC schools.

I turned down $3-$5k in merit aid at App (I don’t remember the exact amount, but I won a couple of leadership and a few other awards), which surprised them.

I don’t remember what happened with Elon (aside from the fact that I got in).

I applied to about 16 schools total, so the rest is a long list of oos schools.

@emily 92, I agree with LadyDianeski. It really depends on your preference. They’re about equal. The students from my school who went to App and UNCW all had similar grades and scores and whatnot overall. Boone is really cool to explore and the mountains are there whenever you want. But they get a ton of snow and it’s a very hippy place. I know plenty of people who go there who aren’t hippy or indie or anything, but that’s the general atmosphere. And they’re also crowded right now. Last year they put a lot of people in forced triples for a couple of weeks until they figured out where to put them all, because a lot more people accepted than they expected (probably b/c of tuition).

I don’t know as much about UNCW, but obviously the beach is great and it doesn’t have that hippy reputation. If you don’t have a real preference, you should do some research on the majors you are considering and choose the school with the better programs.

Thanks for the advice all! Good luck with UNC!

I just applied to UNC and Duke in-state. I’ll find out pretty soon if that was na

UNC, Duke, and App State.

I applied to UNC-CH, ECU, and NCSU. I’ve been accepted to UNC-CH and ECU. I’m waiting for the 30th so I can hear about NCSU. My number one is UNC-CH, with that said that’s where I’ll be :)
