I am currently in the top 12 % percent of my junior class and doubt that i will end up in the top ten percent by the end of my junior year. But i an pretty confident that i will enter it as a senior. Can that help me in applying to UT Austin? I will get my rank for firt semester of my senior year in the middle of january so can i use that to say i am in the top ten percent although i would have applied earlier? O can i wait until then to apply? I was wondering because without being in the top ten percent, my chances seem slim so what can i do?

the problem is that UT is changing the registrations deadline to December, so in January, you will be past the cutoff date, and it might be too late for fall 2010 admission.

maybe longhorn or midwest mom can clarify - it may make you eligable for spring 2011, I’m not sure what the policy is.

You will be legally guaranteed admission if you graduate in the top ten percent. However, if your transcript that you send in by December doesn’t have you as in the top ten percent, that’s the number they use to determine whether you get in.

Afterwards, you can use your new high rank to appeal and you will be legally guaranteed admission, but you will most likely be bumped to Spring 2011. Spring doesn’t have the scholarships that Fall does, so if that’s the case and you don’t get in you might want to wait an entire year to see if you have better chances to get money.
